I really could live w/o all those tweaks as well myself ;-) Just have free week-end begging to be filled with OOTP. And would make a great Father's Day gift ;-)

Well the tweaks we have to do are still kind of important, half of the birthdates are off by a year and some teams prospects are heavily overrated because I haven't touched them up yet, so I'm not sure it'd be really playable in current format if I sent it to you before we do all of these this weekend.

I'm willing to wait for these changes to be made. I can't see myself playing with a set when I know that these minor errors are present

Not to be negative or to scare anyone off, thats all that Rolen's roster set needed too about 2 and a half months ago. Cubby you have been doing a great job with this, but at this time i'm just very optimistic with anything until I actually see a download link posted. Can't wait to see your finished product.

The difference between Cubby and Rolen, though, is that Cubby is releasing the roster in separate files. The first one with ML and AAA (I believe) and another one later with complete minors - he can correct me if I'm wrong. I think Rolen has stated that he wants to release a complete set, not stages. With the amount of updates given by Cubby, I have a lot of faith in him.

Cubby didn't you mention something about running some test sims with your set and posting some numbers to tide us over?

Thanks for all your doing!

Yes, going to do that when I get the file out the door to hb for transaction corrections (the last step). Right now I still have the file in my hands, so I'm trying to spend all the time I have working on it for fixing ratings, if that makes sense.

On a side note, I dont want to see anyone complaining when the Dodgers and Cubs win 100 games in season one...not that Cubby nor I would do such a thing . But in all seriousness, I am gonna block everything off my calendar for Wednesday so I can knock out the transactions which in all honesty isnt all that difficult. I know you all are tired of seeing the "we're close" posts. But believe me, no one wants to play this game more than me and Cubby so we're gonna do everything we can to make this set great.

Thanks for the updates, Cubby and hb. Three things:

-One more minors injury update: Sean Burroughs, SEA-AAA, missed the first 70 days of the season with a separated shoulder (then played a couple of games and was released).

-I've been having a brilliant discussion with '98 Yankees and Zeyes in the General forum about injury implementation, and they discovered a very simple way around the injury database re-import bug. Because of the bug, I'd given up on designing a custom injury database for modern-day MLB, but now it should be possible. It would just be a separate .txt file, that people could use optionally. Am testing some things now...

-Are you making the BA prospect lists match real life? I'd be a bit concerned, becuase of the way OOTP undervalues pitchers in generating these lists, that pitchers would need to be rated too highly for this to happen (this was discussed recently in General as well). In any case, it's one reason I'd be interested in seeing what happens a few years ahead in a sim- to see if the offense/pitching balance shifts over time.

Cubby, we want you to promise NOT to party with your college friends this weekend. Can you do that?

Admittedly I am using the roster set from Cubby's sig so its an old one but I thought I would mention this. I was editing the stadiums to add the photos for each stadium. Strangely when I edit Arizona's details it also changes Washington's, and vice versa? Is this a known problem? It doesnt happen on the other rosters I have used? I was using the historic rosters before that and all was well

I wonder if at some point accuracy has to take a backseat to playability. Birthdates, be damned. Sure prospect ratings are important--in fact seriously important (as they will take over the league). But minor transactions and updated injuries aren't all that important. You can leave some of the work for the individuals.

Personally I'd rather have a Roster set with the full MLB and the top 15-20 prospects of every organization. Even if service time isn't right or B-days, I can fix those for my favorite team.

Part of undertaking large projects is knowing when to cut counters.

This is not to dispage hb or Cubby's efforts, they are much appreciated, but why not let us see what you have and call it a beta-beta-alpha-zero release, eh?

For anyone who's interested...

I've been working on some companion info for this roster set. It's not really a big deal as far as playability is concerned, but I think it'll add a little something. However, instead of saying what it is, I figure I'll just let you discover it once you download the rosters (kinda like when Markus slips that little pleasant surprise into a patch that no one's expecting )

Unfortunately, I only began this project a few days ago and, as you know, the set is almost complete. Therefore, I'm a bit behind if I'm gonna get this thing done by the time the set is released.

Sooooo....

If anyone has a little free time this weekend and/or this coming week and would like to be involved in this project, let me know. I'll only need about 3 or 4 people who can devote a total of maybe 10 hours of work each. It's just basic look-up/data-entry stuff, so we're more or less talking grunt work here. (But hey, when you're playing with this roster set in a few weeks, perhaps you'll get an added sense of satisfaction knowing you made a contribution! )

Anyone that's interested, please PRIVATE MESSAGE me on here and I'll let you know the specifics. Thanks!

We've been working on this for right at a month now, I think you guys can wait a few more days. No offense intended, but I AM releasing an early set, but to have birthdates off would be a bit odd.

If it's going to take longer than I think it will, I'll release a set early to have you guys play with and give feedback. I do want to fix up prospects first though, because I think that's a potential roster-buster if those guys are TOO highly rated and take over the league.

Angry P*ssing me off

I was holding back, but this is something that's really starting to bother me.

I feel like every year, this game gets more and more fans, and there are more and more people who are antsy to get their real rosters. This is crap you guys - these people work hard to put together rosters for no reason at all except for our enjoyment.

OOTP is meant to be a fictional game, and people spend more time on the message boards bitching and whining than they do actually playing the game, and it's stupid.

I personally have a lot of fun making my own logos and uniforms and I have been playing a fictional 16 team league for a very long time and it's enjoyable.

Real rosters are never going to be real when you talk about prospects because who really ever knows who's going to be a star in the MLB? Remember a few years ago when everyone was begging for Hank Blalock to be rated super high in Rolen's set? Now look at him (real life). There is nothing wrong with Airmen's rosters (or whatever his name is, sorry). So for the time being, will you whiny, OOTP noobs just shut the hell up and use those rosters? They work fine for me. You all really need to lay off Rolen and Cubby because I guarantee 95% of you wouldn't get past the first team if you made your own rosters.

Oh and by the way, if I were Cubby I would charge for the rosters - that way you know who is loyal and you get paid for your work. People who sit here and crush Rolen for not getting the rosters done are going to willingly download his rosters for free once they are out, and same for Cubby.

So shut the f*** up, play with the rosters you've got and be happy...or simply take your own time to make your own rosters and quit frustrating the people who are doing all for free.

Thats all I wanted to say.
