Everything seems to work great, but how do I add fictional logo's to my caps and uniforms?

Also, I only get the "first time message" when running it from the shortcut. If you run it from the .exe or create a new shortcut, it comes up normally.

I actually deleted all the backgrounds except for one dark one, then to be safe, I made 70 copies of it and named them 00001.png through 00070.png.

WOW!!!

I just did a couple of run throughs just to see what this can do, and I am very impressed. The added ability to customize the ethnic makup of the league was actually very easy to do and a great option to have. I was also too able to add my own custom uniform templates that I had already made with ease.
I did have one question, what would be the best way to use a specific background for each team. The only way I could think of was to delete all backgrounds and then go team by team while switching out the background for each.
Once again excellent program and a big thanks for creating this.

Probably the last you'll hear from me for a few days, as I'm out of town for the weekend, but I'm glad to hear that so many people are finding the program helpful (you know you've made the big time when your post gets stickied!)

One problem that a lot of you seem to be having is the "Error creating FaceTool1" message where it thinks that you are running the program for the first time every time.

If you are getting that problem, check the FaceTool install directory and make sure that the file "configuration.ini" exisits and that it looks exactly like this
7
(The FaceTool Installtion Directory)
(The OOTP Install Directory)

When you start up the program, the first thing it does is look for that file, and if it doesn't find it, it assumes that it is the first time you are running the program. When that happens, it tries to create a DB Alias called "FaceTool1" which already exists if it's not your first time running it (hence the error)

I'm not sure why so many people are having trouble with the config file, but three possible theories:
1) When FaceTool generates the config file, it's putting it in the wrong folder
2) The operating system is doing something with it
3) Anti-virus software is doing something with it

Anyway, as long as you have that file in your main FT Install Directory and there is nothing wrong with it, you shouldn't be getting that error.

Here is a the "default" config file that you can copy-and-paste if your file is not there:
7
C:\Program Files\OOTP FaceTool
C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2006

Two answers:
  1. The easy way is that as long as you are using PNG format for your logos, and as long as you have "use logos" checked in the main screen, the logos will automatically be added to the front-left part of every photo that doesn't have a "custom uniform" attached to it.
  2. The way that takes a little more effort is to create a custom uniform and then associate it with a team. The format needs to be PNG, 90 x 135, with transparent background, and in the right pose. For an example of what the custom uniform files should look like, check out the (FaceTool Folder)\uniforms\custom\mlb\ folder, which contains the MLB custom unis. You can make your own using Deft's uniform template and PhotoShop or the GIMP.

Option 1 isn't working for me

With option 2, where can I get the template? Can I use the files in the generic uniform folder?

EDIT - Working now. I also figured out how to use Deft's template. This is awesome stuff. Thanks for all the hard work.

I got the error.

Field \universe_name must have a value.

*note i haven't run the inagural draft yet. i wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I have updated the templates to align with the FaceTool alignment and added some neck shadowing for smoother shading. I have attached a sample. After I make a few adjustments I will upload it for general consumption. Layton, I would recommend performing a sharpen photoshop command at the end of the image creation. It adds added realism to the images and makes them look less CGI.

GREAT tool, Layton. Outstanding work!

I had a couple of hiccups but nothing that couldn't be overcome. Couple of things:

If I want to add accessories and whatnot, can I just put them in the appropriate folders? Do I have to delete the tables and let the tool recreate them so it knows they're there?

I notice you only have brown and blonde versions of hair. You can make a black version by just reducing the lightness and saturation. I've also done reddish versions of hair by changing the hue more to the red.

As a matter of fact, it would be great if you could add a step that randomly alters the hair's lightness and saturation (and possibly shifts the hue toward red). That way every beard or hairstyle would be a slightly different color.

In 45 minutes, every player in my league has a FaceGen face! I'm still geeking out about it!

This program is working out great in every aspect except one. The faces sometimes don't match the country. For instance I have a black guy from Finland. So I checked the Nations/Ethnicity data for my league, and it shows 100% caucasion. How could a black face have been created. I also have plenty of Japanese and Koreans with American faces. Anyone else have this problem?

question whenever you get a chance.

there were a few pics that I didn't "like" for lack of a better term.

so I deleted the player_### file and reran a csv dump. assuming the next time I ran the utility it would "re-create" the players that I had deleted.

However this did not work

so my questions are:

1. is this possible and am I doing something wrong?
2. is this not currently possible, but a good work around would be XYZ
3. is this not currently possible and there are no real work arounds, maybe a future version will have something for this.

thanks in advance

I had the same problem. In a roundabout fix, I went into the FaceGen data folder and deleted all the files relevant to the league. After reloading the game, you can generate files and it will generate new ones. The problem being however, it will generate new ones for *everyone* - even if they already have photo files from the last generation. I think that's as close to a fix as you'll get, though.

Some fun with custom uniforms...

A google thanks, Layton! The only problem now is that I'm going to be devoting the next several weeks of my life to making custom uni's for all 180 teams or so in my universe. It'll be worth it!

that is a decent workaround for now and I can always copy out all of the existing created files so I can copy them back if I really like one, plus that gives me a ton of "spares" for future players.

thanks

You should be able to generate a new photo for an individual player using the search option.

YES!

I never noticed that option!!

now the only thing I hope for is when choosing make new face, that the face and not the background actually change.
