this fixes kq76's win % issue and the ratings problem that everyone gripes about....

Go that last 10%!

To be clear, there's nothing wrong with such a system. When it comes to current-day MLB, however, it's going to do what it wants to do, so I can't get too worked up about it. I'll either keep watching the sport or I won't.

I don't hate a ladder system, especially if you only have 3 teams in the PS, but if people grumble about the time between the opening round and the next, they'd likely be apoplectic about any kind of ladder system with more than 1 round of byes. Besides, that would take forever.

Cinci and Baltimore had really good runs in your attachment. Cinci was only defeated in their 8th series and Baltimore in their 6th! Imagine if we watched one of those runs play out IRL, it'd be pretty cool.

Maybe a 3-game series ladder tournament could be scheduled during ST.

What surprises me about this thread is the number of people who insist a short series has significance, some, amazingly, arguing several short series are more significant than a 162 game season.

Yet those who say that seem to understand sample size in other contexts. I don't see them posting complaining that their AAA SS called up to cover an injury is hitting .380 after a month or that their ace starter has a 6.50 ERA in May.

I want four divisions with only the winners going to the post season. I don't see how that could not be discerned.

Like everyone who starts a thread, I wanted this one to be popular. So I'm grateful for all who contributed to its success.
The chance of my Tigers winning 6 World Series in a row is probably greater than the chance of Major League Baseball ever going back to a 4 division format with only the winners going to the post season.

The ideal system would be a 30 team round-robin where each team plays two three-game series, one home and one away, against each other team

Sounds somewhat like the NBA's new in-season tournament, except that uses a group round-robin system,

I've previously suggested to those who think lesser teams winning the WS proves they were the best to let everyone into the post season. For some reason they've rejected that. To them regular season wins matter only part of the time.

Why? There's a lot of interest, good information has been posted, people are having fun, and some fools have been exposed (who they are depends on the viewer), so what's not to like?

It's essentially the regular season with a balanced schedule

Considering the number of posts you have here, you're not in much of a position to dis the thread.

Based on the fact that there is often little difference between one and twelve when it comes to team talent. This is proven by the fact that the best regular season team often loses early in the playoffs. The bottom line is no matter whether you are the best team or not, you have a chance to win it all once you are in the playoffs. I like the fact that 12 teams get a chance, you only want 4. It appears that MLB and a majority of the fanbase wants more than than a 4 team tournament to decide the ultimate champion. Deserving teams are teams that win enough to get to the playoffs. Champions are the ones who win those games.
At least MLB is not talking about an in-season tournament (all teams eligible!) that has attracted zero attention among NBA fans, probably due to Byzantine rules that must have been drawn up by overpaid and over-caffeinated lawyers (speaking as a lawyer, I might add). Worst idea ever. Maybe I should whisper, in case MLB is listening.
