I find that playing some Raccoons in OOTP next to the real game distracts me from the babble, but not the real game itself.

Not that I like what I'm seeing in the real game.

Since I posted I've been watching with the sound off.

The problem is there are two analysts talking baseball theory and no play by play announcer.

Alvarado trying to make a pitch disappear in a guy's underwear.

No Mets fan has ever seen that movie before....

Few things fill my little black heart with as much giddy as Jose Alvarado and his dumb face overseeing a 5-run meltdown.

There's a rally coming, isn't there?

Isn't it great that we will be able to get live eggball scores from the Texans-Eagles game during tomorrow's Game 5?

First WS no-hitter since Don Larsen, 1956? Did I hear that right?

Answer, yes!

There have only been two postseason no-hitters in baseball's long and glorious history: Roy Halladay -- who shut down the Reds in Game 1 of the 2010 NLDS -- and Don Larsen, who hurled a perfect game against the Dodgers in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series.
Wow. You have to hand it to the Astros, I am sorry to say. But the Phillies will probably bounce back tomorrow.

The only other playoff no hitter was by Roy Halladay in 2010 against the Reds

Cristian Javier pitched six innings with no hits and two walks and got credit for a no hitter.

Harvey Haddix pitched twelve perfect innings and got nothing.

Javier did not get credit for a no-hitter. Requires a complete game.

He has credit for a shared no hitter. Haddix has nothing.

Well, I've mentioned that I'm no fan of "combined no-hitters"; they just don't do it for me. And I'm a little upset that Don Larsen loses his uniqueness to a bunch of guys with an asterisk.

And, of course, I just don't like the Astros. When Smoltz was going on about how Javier developed much better than all the scouts thought he would and how Montero and Pressly showed striking improvements once they joined the team, I just started to wonder if this meant something was up. Whether they found more of Mike Scott's old sandpaper stash or whatever. So, I'd much rather it had been almost anybody else.

That said, it's a nice achievement.

It's just I can't believe they yanked Javier after 6 innings. Not solely because it diminishes his chance for individual glory, but for basic strategy reasons. This was Javier's last game of the year. They're not going to pitch him in Game 5/6/7, especially with the travel day wiped out by Monday's rain-out.

So why not let him go as long as he can? As the saying goes, "he's got all winter to rest his arm."

More pertinently, every out Javier can get is one that the Precious Bullpen Arms don't have to get. And Dusty might well need Abreu/Montero/Pressly tomorrow, and they might be diminished because they were finishing up for a guy who was cruising with a 5-0 lead.

If Javier got tired or in trouble that would be one thing. Heck, let two guys get on and I'd pull him. But to yank him with less than 100 pitches thrown and with him practically on auto-pilot?? Why?? What are you "saving" him for, Dusty? You want his arm fresh for when he holds up the trophy? Good gravy.

On a slightly similar note, I nearly exploded when Joe Davis announced Noah Syndergaard as Philadelphia's starter for Game 5 and then said it was "basically a bullpen game". The Hell?

Our beloved God of Thunder has started 144 games in his career, including 24 of his 25 appearances this season. (He started 15 games for the Angels, and made 9 starts and 1 relief appearance for Philly.) Just because he was bumped from the rotation for the postseason does NOT make his reappearance as a starting pitcher into "a bullpen game". Syndergaard's last outing was throwing 1.1 innings in Game 4 of the LCS. Which was on Saturday…Saturday, October 22nd, to be precise!

A veteran starter who was a starter in 96% of his regular-season appearances is taking the mound, pitching on 11 days' rest. How is that "a bullpen game"?? Why not assume that Thor is going to give it his all, and might make it through 5 innings? Or even…Lorde willing…through some miraculous effort, a whole 6 IP?? Again, this will be Noah's last mound appearance until MARCH. At least let him f'ing try.

But no. He'll probably get pulled after 3 innings, having thrown 40 pitches or so, and Davis and Smoltz will say that he did his job, that was the most anybody could expect of him, blah, blah, now Robby Thompson (I know, I'm just funning) will just have to trust his bullpen, blah, blah.

Blah, indeed. I honestly can not stress too much how glad I am that I only have two or three more games of this crap to endure and then I'm done with Manfred's Wasteland, forever.

There's an entire decade's worth of games on YouTube, at least. I don't have the slightest idea what the Indians did in, say, 2011, other than knowing that they didn't win the Series. Hell, I could actually watch 162 Cardinals games and 162 Rangers games from that season and just watch it all develop. (Or watch John Farrell's Red Sox do what I'm told was a pretty impressive collapse.)

As NBC used to say about their summer re-runs, "if you haven't seen it, it's new to YOU!" I seriously don't need this ****.

("Bullpen game", FFS. Somewhere David Cone is groaning. What was it, 181 pitches he threw in the last game of 1991? Didn't seem to hurt his career [Cy Young Award, 4x All-Star, perfect game, 5 World Series titles] going forward. Imagine that…)

Lately, now that I'm almost completely ignoring the current state of MLB (i.e. I'm getting all of my World Series news from this thread), I've been listening to old radio broadcasts on YouTube, mainly from around the 1960s and 1970s. It's been great. And even if I know how one or both teams did that particular season, I usually have no clue how they did in the particular game that I'm listening to.

Wow, can't believe the amount of stories going around about how Don Larson now has company and is no longer unique.

Can't agree with those sentiments at all.

Don Larson threw a perfect game. All by himself.

Houston Astros had a no hitter thrown by a combined 4 pitchers.

There is a big difference between a no-hitter and a perfect game.

In my opinion, Don Larson still stands alone in his accomplishment.

Not taking anything away from the Astros, a great accomplishment, but I'm not giving them anything from Don Larson either. His accomplishment stands head and shoulders above the Astros.
