-Pablo Landeros (1B) of Kona Pipeline

As the summer starts to heat up, so did Landeros' bat. He finished June with a .353 average, 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and 25 runs scored; and currently leads the Stout League in average (.308), home runs (26) and RBIs (61).

Lager League Pitcher of the Month:

-Bobby Antonio (SP) of Scorched Earth Giant Killer

Antonio had an unblemished month in June, going 5-0 in his 5 starts, striking out 33 batters in 33.2 innings, and a 1.60 ERA.

Stout League Pitcher of the Month:

-Steve Armstrong (CL) of Odious Cellars Rubied Perspective

Where the starting pitchers typically get recognized with these award, a surprise entry this time with the closer for Odious Cellars. Armstrong finished June with a 1-0 record and 13 saves, with 23 strikeouts in only 14.2 innings. He held opposing batters to a measly .083 average, and had an equally microscopic 0.61 ERA.

June recap:

Lager League: Pilsner Division: Tree House Tornado - spinning their way into the division lead with a 16-11 run in June; while the pitching staff and defense still struggles a bit (15th in runs against, 10th in starters ERA, 13th in bullpen ERA), the offense has helped carry them into the division lead (5th in runs scored, 4th in batting average, 6th in home runs). No single batter is playing at super-star levels, as Danny Jimenez (3B) leads the team with a .241 average); but the group effort has been enough.

Lager League: Kolsch Division: Scorched Earth Giant Killer - living up to their name, the Giant Killer squad went on a scorching tear in June, finishing the month with a 20-7 record to go from 2 game back of the division leader at the end of May to a 12 game cushion to finish out June. Led by the June Pitcher of the Month, Bobby Antonio (10-3, 1.41 ERA, 104 Ks, .218 BABIP) the club has one of the stingiest defenses in the league, ranking 1st in starters ERA, 3rd in bullpen ERA, FIP and pitching WAR, and 2nd in runs against.

Lager League: Helles Division: Ballast Point Commodores - with a steady hand at the helm, the Commodores maintained their solid play through June (19-9) and expanded their division lead by a few more games. Where other teams lean heavily on offense at the expense of defense or vice versa, the Commodores have done it with a solid effort all around. Top ranked in runs scored, batting average, on base percentage and OPS; 2nd ranked in starters ERA and errors. There is some bad news here though, as their home run leader, Sandy Hernandez, just went down with a torn quad and will miss the next 5-6 weeks. His replacement will be 18 year old Ralph Kyle (whose ratings are 20/11/24/9/28.... out of 100 )

Lager League: Tripel Division: Great Raft Reasonably Corrupt - playing reasonably well in June (14-12), Great Raft saw their division lead shrink slightly as Texas Leaguer closed the gap by a couple games. Led on the pitching side by tag team aces Jason Opatz (10-2, 1.50 ERA, 117 Ks) and Dustin Lamoreaux (10-4, 2.16 ERA, 85 Ks), and on the offensive side by designated hitter Josh Zuiker (.286 average, 24 home runs 59 RBIs), they will need to play better than 'reasonably' well going forward if they want to hold onto the division lead.

Stout League: Porter Division: Crooked Crab Furious George - after two sub-500 months in April and May, Crooked Crab got angry and lived up to their Furious monicker, going 17-9 in June to claim the lead in the most anemic division in the Beer League. Starting pitcher Antonio Torres has all but carried the club with his right arm (11-1, 1.84 ERA, 110 Ks) and will need some support if the club is to maintain that level of play.

Stout League: Dunkel Division: Chafunkta Kingfish - with a balanced attack on the mound (four of the five starters have 6 wins), the Kingfish have managed to produce runs out of thin air (15th in batting average at .179; but 5th in runs scored with 301, thanks to their 3rd ranked home run total of 100).

Stout League: Eisbock Division: Prairie Sun Mad Hopper - speaking of conjuring runs out of thin air, Prairie Sun seems to do just that, ranking 1st in runs scored (340), but 18th in batting average (.173... only two starters are batting over .200 ). A good portion of those runs come from their top ranked power program, with 116 home runs so far.

Stout League: Altbier Division: Odious Cellars Rubied Perspective - matching the scorching pace of Scorched Earth, Odious Cellars had an impressive 20-7 run in June to take a slim half game lead in the division. A solid bullpen (top ranked bullpen ERA) led by Pitcher of the Month Steve Armstrong in the closer position is a big reason why the club is on top of the division.
