Gold league:

Eden Prairie celebrates their first Gold tier OL crown, thanks in large part to their feasting on waffles (14-5 against Waffletown).

Overall, 6 OL teams make the post season. Eden Prairie, Waxhaw, and Tampico earn first round byes. Aomori, Waffletown, and Auckland in the wild card round (none play each other).

Port Ruppert and Mevagissey will drop back to Silver next season

Diamond League

Not a huge amount of games again, and Mount Hawke managed to keep the losses to a minimum.

Not a great week for playoffs, but everyone's safe.

Iron

Doug falls in Iron World Series after eliminating Long Beach in the CS. Both the Outs and Landsharks advance to Bronze.

I had a hunch that it had reached the stage where Tintagel had pulled twice as many non-live perfects as both Mevagissey and Mount Hawke put together, so I got around to checking. Sure enough, Tin = 28, Mev =11, MH = 3 (not including perfect packs for any). Given that Tintagel have averaged about 800 packs per non-live perfect, Mevagissey should have pulled nearly as many as Tintagel, and Mount Hawke have won enough packs to pull at least 10 , it's hard not to be cynical...

With Mount Hawke, I've not bought non-live duplicates for easy profit. I've not bought any live cards for easy profit from the updates. I even stopped buying cheap cards before mission drops, after the BaL missions, because I was worried about being OP for OL. Having put the emphasis on my pack luck, it's pretty depressing having such bad drop rates.

While I'm a it, OL teams have won roughly 20% less championships than you'd expect from a 1 in 12 chance in the playoffs. And OL teams have managed less than 1 PD win per team, which seems awfully miserly to me!

I have some strong thoughts that I will keep to myself

You obviously get many more packs (impressive!) than I do and have been playing longer but while I have had more Perfect (just 2 non-live I think) luck than Mount Hawke the 28 for Tintagel is impressive.

As for PD I think a lot of people just do not play them. I had a fair amount of luck with them last year but they are just time consuming so it was not something I was particularly interested in. However, when it became obvious you would need to get at least some cards from PD for missions I started playing 2 a day. I have had mixed luck but enough that doing 2 a day is tolerable.

I am trying to enjoy the game this year but I do think the balance is off--you can always play/do less but it seems like in other years there was a much better return for FTP efforts in tourneys and PD.

Finally, I am rooting for all the other OL teams (except when they play the Quinta Fiasco). It seems like there are more casual players this year but I still mostly take my lumps from OL.

A bit of a late start this year, but I plan to join my three teams again this year. I just have the 6 starter packs opened so far, so not Our League legal yet, but here are the teams:

Boomcoach Midwest Kaiju
Boomcoach2 Left Coast LabRats
Boomcoach3 Bluffton Boomerangs

Heck, I've been seriously compulsive about quick tourneys for the last 3 years, until my enthusiasm fizzled out before Christmas. Ripping lots of packs in the first month really gets the ball rolling, and Mevagissey/Tintagel spend all their points on packs, so that adds up pretty quickly.

I won 2 daily PDs before the leaderboards went live, and I haven't won another PD since! The cards I won still aren't in missions... . They're worth doing, though, even if you don't do great in them. However, not winning gets boring and I stopped entering PDs in Dec.

Bottom line for me is that I can't help feeling shortchanged this year. OL has been fun again, though.

... Congratulations to the Quinta Fiasco!

I haven't had much of a look, but they beat Mount Hawke 3-1 in order to win that crown.

Looks like it's gonna be tough in the playoffs, but nice that Quinta and Shinbone avoided each other.

Tintagel's luck ran out, and they were actually unlucky this week.

Congrats to the Doug Outs. They're on a roll!

Nice bit of playoff action, and no relegations.

I guess if you post about luck and lack of titles you win one! Usually Shinbone beats up on me so much nothing else matters. Good luck in the playoffs--I know the Fiasco will be an underdog there but I have one trick up my sleeve.

I also made a comment about pack luck (so I guess posting is the best means to success) and that changed dramatically this morning when not only did I win a daily tournament but I pulled Christmas LE Rickey Henderson with the proceeds (i would have guessed they had all been given out by now)! I will play him in the playoffs and make a decision later today on whether to keep (could obviously use him but I could get a few starters out of the proceeds as well)
