EC's Scoring More in '54

EC is now 14... coming of age little by little... actually EC was scoring a little more in '54... we are in the last month of the 8th grade... life is good in Mobile... maybe the best year of my life so far... loving sports... watching the Mobile Bears and Southern Association baseball at Hartwell Field... seeing some good movies... and enjoying the hits of 1954 on the radio and on my record player... learning a little bit about Jesus at Central Baptist Church and my gal pals, Judy and Margie, and best friend Richard... hanging out at the malt shop with all the cool 8th graders after school... then heading to Galvez playground to play whatever sport is in season... life was a breeze for EC.

For most of the year I was Judy's boyfriend off and on... sometimes I was her number-one guy... sometimes it was Carl Vernon Smith... sometimes at night I would head over to her house... I would ride my bike over to her house on Monroe Street... we would sit on her front porch in a swing and just talk... and maybe sometimes hold hands... her little sister would chaperone us... usually she would get tired of being with us and being ignored and go inside... now it was time for EC to make his move... only problem was EC didn't know enough about girls to make his move... fortunately, Judy was experienced and help me out... she gave EC his first lessons in making out and smooching... it was simple hugs and short sweet kisses... just on the lips... it was April, 1954 when EC was enlightened about real "making out"... it happened at Jackie Boutwell's party... Jackie liked boys and showed it... she was a flirt and a little agressive if she took a liking to you... yeah, she liked EC... but my heart belonged to Judy at the time... we were playing "Spin the Bottle" and it pointed at Jackie on my turn... we went out on the porch... none of us would kiss with anyone around... I took her in my arms and lightly kissed her lips... that's all I knew to do... "that night" and "that kiss" was my first time to be "French kissed"... Jackie started using her tongue in ways I had never known... Wow! ... it scared the heck out of EC! ... I was too shocked to enjoy it... I quickly broke her passionate embrace, escaped with my integrity and morals still intact, thank goodness, and sheepishly went back inside... and stayed clear of Jackie Boutwell and her overactive lips the rest of the evening... later on in the summer in Sheffield, I would slightly and enthusiastically expand my knowledge of how to kiss properly in the fashion of the French... more about that later.
I have been really busy with work lately after finishing up a project, so I have not logged in a lot of time recently.

Anyway, I wanted you to know that I enjoyed reading your coming-of-age tale and look forward to reading more!

Thank you for your kind comments... much appreciate you and the others that seem to enjoy my life story.

My sad high school days are on the horizon... not sure I want to relive some parts of it... but you will get to read it warts and all... the good, the bad, the sad.

Hope it's not boring to the baseball gamers.

I enjoy reliving my life... it's been a really good one... some of it is tragic, but most of it is magic... I have some wonderful people, family and friends, that so far have gotten me almost to 81 years old.

EC's life is good... it is good today.

People like you and the other wonderful gamers on the OOTP Forum really make my days good... all of you are special to me.

GATORS, CAJUNS ON TOP OF THE HEAP IN SOUTH ISLAND SUPREME LEAGUE
This past weekend in the South Island Supreme League the Guedon Gators survived a showdown with their arch-nemesis, the St. Dominic Saints... the Gators slipped past the Saints 6-4 on the road to take over the top spot in the standings... Bar Harbor also picked up a victory 7-4 over the Meraux Tigers to stay even with Guedon... both clubs have posted 7-4 records this season... St. Dominic fell to the third position in the league at 6-5.

In a tense duel between the frontrunners in the South Island Primary League pennant chase, first place Claiborne won a thriller 3-2 to go up by three games over the runner-up Mystic Mariners... the lower rung of the league also had another exciting clash... third place Bayou Bleu slipped past last place Des Allemands 4-3.

MY LIFE IN 1954
EC's Scoring More in '54

School is out... 8th Grade has come and gone... looking back on it, it was a really good one... the best that EC would ever have... in the last party of the year at Shirley Britt's house... Shirley was the Queen of the May Festival... she liked me a lot... however, she was just a good friend and a good buddy to me... my heart was elsewhere... I wanted something I could never have -- beautiful and manipulative Judy Flack... as the year progressed I finally realized that Judy just used me to get to Carl V... so at the end of the year my heart turned to her best friend... that cute little lady, Margie Pollard... she was pretty, perky and pleasant to be with... Margie was really a special little lady -- the perfect girlfriend... we finally got together at the last party of the year... Shirley told Margie that I was sweet on her and she told Shirley she was sweet on me, too... so Shirley told me... that's how Margie and I got together at last... and yes, we played Spin the Bottle that night and would you believe it landed on Margie... oh, what a nice, sweet little kiss on the lips it was, standing on the porch amid all the moonlight and magnolia trees in Mobile.

One of the big hit songs of the day was "Sincerely" by the McGwire Sisters... anytime I have ever heard that great song since that time, I always think of Margie... she was a special lady in my life... but just for a little while... our forever love affair only lasted for the Summer of '54... EC loved being on the baseball diamond more that being with cute little Margie... she got tired of play second fiddle to baseball and broke up with me... I realized I let a really nice young lady depart from my life... for the next four years in junior high and high school, I pined for her and mooned for her from afar... always regretting what happened... EC missed his chance of a lifetime... at least, that's what I thought for years... until I got the love of my life, my wife... you see, Jesus already had my life figured out... I think Jesus must be a big baseball fan, at least in the Summer of '54, which was also my best year in baseball.

OK, enough of that lovey dovey and lost love stuff.

It's cuddling time for all you guys and gals and buckaroos and little darlin's, too... grab your sweetheart and get some "TLC"... "tender loving care" as we cuddle up with Christine, Phyliss and Dorothy -- the very talented McGuire Sisters and listen to one of the greatest love songs of all-time from the Golden Year of 1954 -- "Sincerely".

THEODORE AND JOLIET JAMMED AT TOP OF THE NI PREMIER LEAGUE
The two leaders of the North Island Premier League tangled for the fourth time this season with Joliet taking a 3-2 decision over the Theodore Bobcats to tie them for first place... it was win number two in the series for the Green Giants... in other league action it was the New Yerby Yankees outlasting the Dutton Coyotes 10-8... both are doing poorly this year with 5-7 records.

KOFA KO'S KINSTON, EXTENDS LEAD TO 2 GAMES IN NORTH ISLAND ELITE LEAGUE, JACKSON IS ROLLING WITH 4TH STRAIGHT VICTORY
Things are getting bunched up in the North Island Elite League standings... it's beginning to look like a 3-team race... despite its woeful offense, the Kofa Kings are the top team... they skimmed past the Kinston Firebirds 4-2 to take a 2-game lead... rejuvenated Jackson just barely nosed out last place Avalon 2-1... the Jackalopes are now tied for second place.
