Thanks. Not sure what the miscalculations were, but appreciate the adjustments.

Nothing too big... Just had to adjust Avoid K's to be 80% of Contact, and gave one of your players more range because of his speed.

Thanks.
The basic idea is that every year, you get to create two players with all the attributes fully customizable: name, origin, height, weight, character traits (clutch, etc.), and all skills. You buy skills using "dollars." For example, your team has the right to create two batters with $180, two pitchers with $140, or one of each. (The number of dollars you get was determined in the draft lottery; you can read about the rules of the draft lottery at the bottom of page four of this thread.) The rules I posted above govern how you can distribute those "dollars" among skills.

You can read about how the idea behind this dynasty began in this thread.

Let me know if you need any additional tips, Brad.

I'm going ahead and creating the players for Bethel Park and Utica. Also, Vris hasn't submitted his players, so I'll create the players for Worcester too on Sunday.

April-May 2002

Well, in the end I had to create players for Utica, Bethel Park, Racine, Valois, and Worcester, because none of those teams submitted players.

For spring training, I gave new players five points in each category, then hit the "ask coaches" button.

League website updated!

As of June 1, the Wallbangers hold onto a bare half-game lead over Cooperstown in the Eastern Conf, after getting off to a torrid start. Racine and Fontana are tied for the Western Conf lead, with Bethel Park and Nicholasville just a half-game behind. Bellaire had a great start and threatened for the conference lead at one point in April, but tanked in May and are now the worst team in the league.

More commentary to follow soon...

Appears a couple of injuries have sucked Biggus Dickus of his power.

Why Bellaire is doing badly:

My third baseman, Steven Delarosa, got injured for a full year during spring training, and his .357 batting average from last year has been replaced by a .104 (!!!?$%@#!$!) batting average from my current third baseman, Greg White.

On the bright side, J.R.R. Tolkien is a bona fide ROY candidate, hitting .320/.413/.486 so far and leading all rookies in RBI. (Johnny Law of Treasure City is the leader in runs scored and will be the main competition. Cooperstown's new young ace, Ronnie "Cowboy" Marcum, hasn't really found his groove yet and is 5-5 with a 4.14 ERA.)

Better late than never: league website updated through All-Star break.

For a while, it looked as if the East would be a two-team race between Wantagh and Cooperstown. In late June and early July things turned around dramatically, as Pittsfield seized the lead, and Atlantic City crept up gradually into second place. In the West it has been a two-team race between Fontana and Bethel Park, but in the last 10 games Fontana has gone 8-2 to take a 3.5 game lead over the Blackhawks.

In the All-Star game, the EC made up a 3-0 deficit to win the game, 4-3. Cooperstown, Fontana, and Bethel Park each fielded six All-Stars this year. Bellaire and Utica trailed the pack with only one All-Star each.

One of Wantagh's better pitchers, 20-year-old Monroe Hage, suffered a career-ending injury at the end of May.

Two no-hitters have been thrown so far: by Eric Harrison of Cooperstown and Josh Rock of Bethel Park.

Two players have scored five runs in a game this season: Scott Fite of Fontana and Fargo Winters of Treasure Valley. Fite also drove in five in his 4-for-4 day.

I finally got sick of good players getting stuck in the bottom rungs of the minors, so I went through the whole league and manually promoted players I thought deserved a chance. The AI might just undo what I did, but I thought I'd give it a try.

On Friday I'll sim to the end of the season. My predictions: Atlantic City has solid pitching and excellent hitting; I think they will put out a surprise victory in the East. Southworth, Madden, Kahle, and Creighton are all potent HR hitters. SP "The Thoominator" is out for the year, but he's fairly replaceable.

Fontana is the best-hitting team in the whole league and the best-pitching team in the West. They will not be denied, and at this point I'd pick them to win it all. (Of course, I've blown hot and cold on Fontana before, so take my prediction with a grain of salt.) However, they did lose C George Chaney for the whole year, so that may give a healthy Bethel Park a fighting chance.

Well, the AI did mess up everything I did the day after I did it. So what I did instead to solve the most severe problem, which is the fact that the AI has been playing lots of players without any rest, because it refuses to call up backups who can play multiple positions, was to create a bunch of new positions for players on the active roster. I did this for every team, and I used the standard rules for subtracting range (and used the bare minimum fielding % for all). Hopefully this will allow players to take more rest. I think Biggus Dickus' talent hits were due to not resting, so it's important to get this fixed.

Wow, this was a great pennant chase. I wish you guys could have seen it.

league website

Pittsfield and Fontana started September leading their divisions. Both teams crashed in the middle of the month, and Cooperstown and Bethel Park surged past. Both Pittsfield and Fontana recovered a bit by the end of the month, but Cooperstown held off the challenge while Bethel Park succumbed. Treasure Valley rattled off a few wins near the end to get within three games, but Fontana took it in the West. It will be a Legends-Greyhounds World Series, the first WS appearances for each team. Will the Western Conference representative finally win a World Series, or will a third EC team take home the trophy?

My prediction: Fontana has better hitting, but Cooperstown has better pitching. This will be a close one. I think Cooperstown matches up well with Fontana, though. Mark Alford will shut down the Greyhound running game. But Fontana did win the season series, 4-2, and Cooperstown's bullpen is horrible, so if the Greyhounds can work the count successfully and get past the starters, it could be curtains for the Legends. The Greyhounds were second in the league in walks; the Legends were tied for ninth in that category. But here's the final and decisive blow: Cooperstown ace Eric Harrison went down in September and will be unavailable for the entire series. The Greyhounds are missing C "Kong" Chaney and SP Hudson Nicolette, but they did pretty well without them for most of the season. Fontana in seven.

Fun stuff...Wantagh plays 9 games above pythag. Dickus' off season killed us. Definitely need to hope the young position guys can make an impact soon. At least Latini looks like he'll be good at the hot corner.

Good luck to Fontana and Cooperstown.

Crazy roster management...Joe Gansrow, probably my best guy this year, is reduced to a pinch hitter at the end of the season so it can play Pete Rooney at shortstop, who goes on to hit .127. Lost the division by 3 games...not sure how long it was doing this for, but at least the last 10 games. Any idea why and were there similar issues with other teams?

This is the first I've seen of that in any of the leagues I run on 6.5. There have been other screwy but understandable roster decisions, such as not bringing up to the majors players who can back up your everyday position players, but never benching a good player in favor of a bad one. I note that after the season ended, that .127 hitter was demoted and Gansrow was put back into the lineup. It could be a September call-ups thing; the AI might have thought Rooney needed seasoning and started him for that reason. But given that the team was in contention for the pennant, the AI should not have done that. So I guess I'm stumped.
