Odalis Perez for Cole Hamels?

If only that could happen IRL, but I don't think the Phillies would give a bag of balls for Odalis let alone Hamels.

I still think that you should play Johnny Buck more, but it is your team.

And you said when Rogers comes back that he would replace Diaz in the rotation. I would keep Diaz in the rotation and put Bale in middle relief, send Soria down to AAA, and make Stemle the righty setup guy. Just a thought.

As far as Nomar goes, it's a meh move to me. If he declines anywhere near as much as he has IRL, he will be a warm body, nothing more.

KUTGW, dauis!

Game #108 – Minnesota (R. Ortiz 3-4, 4.57 ERA) at Kansas City (J. Bale 5-8, 6.38 ERA)

Minnesota 1
Kansas City 5
W: J. Bale (6-8) L: R. Ortiz (3-5) S: J. Soria (8)
HR – KC: D. Ross (18), E. Brown (10), S. Spiezio (30)

After each team scored a run in the first, we kept grinding away, scoring a run here and there on our way to the victory. It wasn’ anything special, just a good, solid win. Bale went 6, allowing just the 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks and striking out 10. There have been some grumblings about whether or not he should stay in the rotation. He’s doing his best to answer those critics.

Yeah, I was very happy to get Hamels. He was being used as a long relief/spot starter on Philadelphia. And they've plugged Perez into the top of their rotation, so they probably think they got a good deal, too.

I see what you're saying about the pitching staff. The only problem is that Diaz, even when pitching well, hasn't been able to get out of the 5th inning, so it'd really tax our bullpen when he starts. I do need to find another lefty for the bullpen, though.

Neither catcher is going to hit for average, and Ross can hit for power a lot more than Buck can. If I can find another catcher, at least one of them will be gone, as neither of them is starting catcher material. Sorry RB.

We were down 7-2 going into the 9th, when Emil Brown hit a 3-run shot to bring us to within 2, but that was all the damage we could do.

It turns out that the Nomar deal is already a bad idea. He told me he wants to play for a winner and wants out of Kansas City.

Game #110 – Chicago (A) (J. Garland 5-10, 5.55 ERA) at Kansas City (J. Diaz 0-0, 4.38 ERA)

Chicago (A) 1

W: L. Nunez (3-0) L: J. Garland (5-11)
HR – KC: E. Brown (12), W. Betemit (15), J. Buck (3), M. Teahen 2 (22)

Complete domination. Diaz pitched ok, but he was only about to go 4 innings. That left Nunez to pitch 2.1 and Soria to pitch 2.2. If Diaz could increase his endurance, he’d be a good candidate to earn a permanent spot on the big league roster. Teahen went 3-4 with 2 home runs, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBIs to lead the onslaught.

It was a pretty even game, with nobody really getting any rallies going. A run here and there was all there was the entire game. Unfortunately, we couldn’t score Spiezio from third to tie it in the ninth. Buddy decided to try a squeeze with 2 out and David Ross up. Good call, Buddy. I might have to turn coaches back on just so I can fire him. Dave Bush went 7 strong innings for the Sox, giving up 1 run on just 3 hits and 2 walks, and he struck out 6.

Ugh. Another bullpen disaster. We were up 5-3 going into the 9th. Broxton came in to close it out and face Andy Gonzalez. He got Gonzalez swinging, but the ball got away, and Gonzalez reached first. The next batter was Darin Erstad. He hit his first home run of the season to tie the game at 5.

We brought Evert in to try to get us to the bottom of the 9th still tied, and he started off well by striking out Pierzynski. Mackowiak got a base hit, and Dye drew a walk before Evert got Thome to fly out to center for the second out of the inning. We couldn’t get out of the inning, though, as Crede hit a double to right that scored Mackowiak and sent Dye to third. Fields followed with a double of his own that scored Dye and Crede. Nunez came in and stopped the bleeding by getting Sweeney to strike out.

Our guys went down in order in the bottom of the 9th.

WEEKLY THOUGHTS
Woohoo! A winning week! We went 4-3. Rogers comes back this week and takes the fourth spot in the rotation, between Bale and Gobble. Greinke is leading the league in the race to 20 losses. Like I’ve said before, I don’t know what’s wrong with him, because I don’t think he’s nearly as bad as his stats indicate this season.

We removed Omaha catcher Jared Price from the 40-man roster and replaced him with Wichita shortstop Andres Blanco. Andres is hitting .317 in Wichita.

AL Player of the Week
3B Eider Torres (BAL) .542, 2 HR, 9 RBI

NL Player of the Week
C Eliezer Alfonzo (SFN) .440, 5 HR, 10 RBI, 6 R

We removed Omaha catcher Jared Price from the 40-man roster and replaced him with Wichita shortstop Andres Blanco. Andres is hitting .317 in Wichita.

I really love your story! If I had more time and a better command of English I'd like to write such a story as well

Strange about Greinke. But such things can happen. I also had no idea why Brad Radke could give up seven homers in his first start for me

I'm glad you enjoy the story, Loeffle. Hopefully you can read about a winner in the near future.

I don’t know what I’m going to do with Broxton. Soria had to bail him out again after he gave up 2 runs in the 9th without getting an out. Rogers had an above-average outing, going 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and a walk, and striking out 7. Miguel Tejada went 3-4 with a home run, a run scored, and 2 RBIs for the Orioles.

Excellent read, and I like that you don't wait a week in between posts. Keep it up, gives me something to do at work.

Glad you enjoy it. I hope to keep up the regular posting, even though your boss would probably prefer if I only posted on weekends. Ha.

TRADE

We had the first post-deadline trade today. The Cincinnati Reds sent 26-year-old starting pitcher Mike Gosling to the Colorado Rockies for 23-year-old minor league catcher Neil Wilson. Gosling has a lot of upside potential, but I’m not sure Coors Field is the place for him to realize that potential.

Game #115 – Baltimore (A. Garcia 3-4, 5.43 ERA) at Kansas City (Z. Greinke 4-16, 6.35 ERA)
Baltimore 6
Kansas City 5
W: C. Bradford (7-1) L: B. Evert (5-3) S: D. Baez (28)
HR – KC: W. Betemit (18)

Evert may have been officially credited with the loss, but I put this on Greinke’s shoulders. He was cruising along for the first 6 innings, shutting the Orioles out. Then the 7th inning came along, and he gave up 5 runs and was only able to get 1 out before being pulled for Evert. So a 1-0 lead turned into a 5-1 deficit. However, our lineup battled back and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th. It stayed that way until the top of the 9th, when Evert gave up the eventual winning run.

Toronto 0
Minnesota 7
W: J. Santana (18-5) L: T. Taubenheim (3-4)
HR – MIN: J. Morneau 2 (37)

Johan Santana had another good outing, as he continues to show why he deserves the Cy Young. He allowed only 3 hits and 3 walks, and he struck out 4.

New York (A) 1
Boston 0
W: C. Wang (14-9) L: D. Matsuzaka (14-10)

The Red Sox faithful didn’t have anything to cheer about, as Chien-Ming Wang limited them to 5 hits and a walk, and he struck out 2.

What an outing by Cole. 8.1 innings pitched, 3 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Broxton came on and actually got a save with ease. Nomar went 1-3 with a double and the only 2 RBIs of the game.

Kansas City 9
Detroit 8
W: J. Soria (1-5) L: R. Colon (6-1) S: J. Broxton (4)

What an ugly game. We won despite committing 5 errors, 2 of them by Emil Brown. We were down 4-2 going into the 8th, when we scored 6 runs in the top of the inning, but allowed the Tigers to tie the game at 8 by scoring 4 in the bottom of the 8th. We scored the winning run in the top of the 9th, and Broxton pitched a perfect 9th for the save.
