Service Pack 2 and DX 9.0c

Hey, I've been reading these fourms because I have the same crashing problem, and I simply cant stand playing the game without the sound. I'm wondering if someone on here would care to explain to me how I can uninstall Service Pack 2 and DX 9.0c. Also, are thoes the only two reasons that the game might crash? Thanks.

It is not the only reason, I have since upgraded my game to 9.0c and XP SP 2 without any problems. But I also have sound turned off since I have never played with it on since version 4.

One of the issues I am seeing with a lot of sports sims is those two things, but for those that are using sounds in their game, if your sound drivers are not up to date and registered and signed with Microsoft, it will cause a lot of problems as well.

And since Microsoft hasn't been very forthcoming about what changes SP2 and Direct X 9.0c has done, a lot of the programmers are in the dark and have to try and figure out without a lot of help from Microsoft why the issues are cropping up.

Go to your Add Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove the SP 2 and Direct X 9.0c there.

You can't remove DirectX 9.0c can you ....? I know the service pack can, But I always thought once a person installed Directx, it is not removable.

I believe you are correct - directx updates cannot be backed out.

And do you really want to remove a SP that provides core updates and security measures to your O/S in order to have sound for a game? I don't know - even on my gaming system I hesitated to do that... to each his own I guess.

Definitely! The way I look at it... XP SP1 was secure enough for the previous year or two... It didn't get any worse just because something better came along...

Personal preference definitely applies, though.

You can download 3rd party programs that remove directX however...I would not advise it unless you accept the risk of a total computer melt down that may require a reformat
