Greetings!
I got OOTP6 as a christmas present, and was looking forward to some baseball action ... Alas, it was meant to be, everytime I try to do anything, the game crashes. It has crashed generating reports, it has crashed simming games, it has crashed throwing the first pitch, it has crashed just mousing over things, the longest I've been able to continously play was about 6 minutes. I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling, I've tried turning off the sound and the 3D thing, I've tried changing browers (I've tested with Mozilla and IE), defragging my harddisk. Running on Win2k, with the latest drivers for my videocard / motherboard, directx 9.0c. I'd really like to avoid formatting my system - everything else runs fine on my computer, no hitches, no crashes. Is there anything else I need to update / look at in order to ensure that the game stops crashing and I can actually enjoy this game? |

Though it's probably not possible to have downloaded OOTP in the last two days and not have the latest version, make sure you have v6.11 first.
Having DX 9.0c means you'll have to turn off sound, or it will crash at the end of every game. Obviously, you've got more going on than that, so I'll let Steve handle it.

Thanks for your suggestion, I checked and indeed, it's 6.11.
I uninstalled and reinstalled again, using the file from the mirror server and things have improved slightly. Still crashes at random points throughout, but it takes 5-10 mins now, instead of the 2 - 5 mins before. From what I can tell, I really like the depth of this game and I'd like to play it for a couple of hours straight to see if my initial reaction is correct. ;-) |

TomK - Go to the start menu, and go to the Out of the park developments/ootp6 folder. Launch the "game configuration" program.
Toggle direct 3D mode to "DISABLED" and then toggle sound mode to "disabled" - then click "APPLY" and exit the program. When you start your game, go to options and make sure sound is off... this should hopefully end your crash issues ![]() Good luck!

Hey Anachronisim!
Thanks for your suggestions, and it did indeed make a difference, I can now play about 15 minutes before I get a crash, or usually one 'played' game or a simmed day. On a related note, do the settings get saved? If I pick another skin, and close the game, it resets to default if I restart again, is it supposed to be like that? Any other tips, comments, feel free. |

they will need to know more about your system.
have you downloaded all updates from MSN You say you have Windows 2000 .... if so I can not help , I went from Win95 to WinXP. And service pack 2 crashes the game unless sound is off. .

OOTP6 takes a lot of RAM so while playing or simming a set of games, hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and check to see how much commit charge is in use. You may be overloading your older machine and may have to streamline your system to handle OOTP6.
Download Spybot and use it to clean up spyware that may be using resources. Then go to www.blackviper.com and spend some time disabling unnecessary services. Then go to START, RUN, and type "msconfig". Then click the STARTUP tab. take the check off of software you don't want running at startup automatically. Ideally, you want a minimum here as it causes your system to boot slow. Only Windows dependent processes should be allowed to start on startup. Also, disable ALL antivirus software while gaming. The nice thing about OOTP6 is it often saves your league as it crashes, so I've heard. I haven't had any crashes and that's probably due to my running it on a massive machine that's kept in optimum running condition. Hope this helps.
