Basic Cato Problem -- File, New, "File Not Found"
My problem's exactly as detailed in the subject -- can't get so far as to opening a new database before I get a 'file not found' error. Anyone able to help me out?

That's a strange one, but I think I got it...
Check your Catobase folder and see if you renamed or deleted CatoBase.MDB ... that's the blank database that Catobase makes a copy of when you create a new database. If it's not there at all, you'll have to reinstall Catobase to restore that file.

![]() Tried reinstalling, but got nowhere, so I'm back to page one. There's not some specific program I need to have to run this aside from the Microsoft data components, is there?

Well, I had impressed myself for a minute there...
![]() I was going to say "Make sure you downloaded the 'Exporters for Catobase 6' for equalnicity.com "... but it can't be accessing the exporters when all you're doing is creating a new database... There's only two different ways that I can get Catobase to do File, New, "File Not Found"... either CatoBase.mdb is missing (in this case, you get the error after you choose a directory and filename) or CatoBase.ini is missing (in this case, the error comes up right after you hit New). So if it's not either of those, I'm stumped.

Okay, I just figured out why mine wasn't working.. sigh..
I noticed it hadn't created a desktop Icon, so I did that. That seemed to have messed it up. I ran Catobase directly from the directory and I was able to save a new database. I don't know if that would help you out cknox, but try it out.

Well, I couldn't make it happen just by messing with the shortcut's Properties... but I could make it happen if I accidently made a copy of CatoBase.exe instead of making a shortcut...
So maybe that's it...

Looks like it works fine. I'll be able to run it tonight. Thanks much, Jeremy.

I'm glad we figured it out... but one has to wonder how the .ini got there in the first place...

*bump*
I am having the same "File Not Found" problem, but I was looking around for the .ini file, and I don't see that anywhere....Should that have been created when I installed Cato? |

Yeah, it should have been automagically created in the same folder as your Catobase.exe... Either reinstall or do a file search for it.
