Worst mistake ever.
After a few miserable years, my AAA affiliate was loaded with some great prospects, and imagine my joy when virtually all of them were ready before the start of the year. I dumped alot of my overpayed schlubs, and installed the rookies. My only concern was my starters were average at best. Checking my minors report in May, I found that my top pitching prospect was ready.
I eagerly inserted him into the top of the rotation. I wasn't disappointed. In 7 starts, he went 6-0, 1.18 ERA, striking out 65 and walking only 8. I was weeping with joy, this guy is the second coming! 3 pitches into his eigth start, the hammer fell. A ruptured disk in his back ended his fantastic season. Crushed, I put him on the 60day DL. Luckily there was a 2.5 star pitcher left in the FA pool, and I signed him rather than take a chance ruining another pitching prospect. The season wore on, albeit poorly with a seriously suspect pitching staff. The team played above itself, however, and managed to get itself into a playoff game for the wild card. I lost unfortunately, and depressed, I clicked the sim through playoffs button. Still depressed, I clicked the continue to next season button. You know when you lock your keys in the car, how there is that split second realisation as you let go of the door handle that you just did it? The split second I clicked the next season button, I realised that I hadn't returned the young phenom back to the 40 man roster. The Rangers gleefully picked him up with their first round rule-5 pick. Now, every game, every season, I see the reminder in the league-leader pitching list. Floyd Warren has gone on to win the Cy Young SEVEN YEARS IN A ROW!!! In 365 starts, he is 203-65. Career ERA of 3.32, 2,197 Ks to 533 walks. 45 complete games, and 18 shutouts. In 7 years worth of postseason trips, he has started 20 games, going 12-6 including 2 shutouts. Posting a 3.36 ERA, striking out 123 and walking 34. My only comfort is that he hasn't thrown any no-hitters. So boys and girls, to sum things up.......BACK UP YOUR LEAGUE EVERY DAY IF YOU HAVE TO!!!!!!!!

A screwup like that, I have no qualms about fixing it. And I'm only sending over a decent prospect because the Rangers would lose a pick otherwise.

Don't you have a chance to add players to your 40-man before the Rule 5 Draft? I usually wait until the day before or day of the draft before I fill up my 40-man.

I though Napoleon's invasion of Russia was the worst mistake ever?

If he had minor league free agency on, and the player was on the DL or DFA, he may not have seen the "(Minor league FA next year)" note on the organization level in-game reports. So, if the player was a minor league FA, he would have lost him and the Rangers could have signed him.
Not exactly what he said, but that's the guess that makes sense to me. I've done it before. =) Now I make sure to use the Player Salaries list in the Front Office section before I hit that "Proceed to Next Season" button. |

My Worst Mistake Ever
I once accidentally put flaxseed oil on my sandwich instead of mayo and popped hot during the next league urine test.

Very sad, I think I would start a new league if that happened to me...
