I have a laptop and the highest resolution it goes to is 800 * 600 and since I'm a newbie I just downloaded the demo to ootp3 and the letters were almost illegible. My question is does this game only work on newer video cards because i searched the web for updates but none were made . I'll be very pissed if this means i can't get ootp4 why cant they make it 800 * 600 compatible

If youre referring to the options in graphics setup where it says Direct 3D enabled/disabled I tried it to no avail.

not necessarily a solid answer here, but some relevant discussion anyway...

Actually yeah I was looking for that topic earlier, I'm assuming from Markus's earlier post that this issue has not been adressed and it will not run on 800 x 600, apparently this must be a difficult issue to correct or I'm sure he would have implemented it in this year's edition, OOTP5 maybe?????? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

It appears to possibly be video card specific as some are able to and others are not. With so many options it is just hard to test for all. I had an older laptop and it worked on that rez for me. Fairly certain if you d/l and purchase the game and it does not work you can get a refund.

Maybe it's a laptop thing, because when I had my desktop monitor set at 800*600, OOTP looked fine IN FULL SCREEN MODE, as opposed to windowed mode. With OOTP in a window I had the problem you guys are having.

Yeah I may try that route Steve d/l it and if it doesnt work try for the refund, I'd LOVE to be able to run this game but if not I suppose I'll get over it. The thing thats peeving me right now is missing nearly the entire baseball season on my May through September deployment!!!!

The reason that it's not been fixed (from the first or second post) is that it would just cost too much to fix (too many combinations) and the cost would outweigh the revenue of the people who could now use it..

Unfortunately, the explanation of the screen resolution problem I wrote last year got lost when the original board went down. Without trying to write all that again, for what it's worth, let me offer this.
1st: Not all 800x600 machines have a problem. It depends entirely of the way the drivers were written, when they were written, and how that compares to the environment Markus is developing in. To expect Markus to buy/lease all the combinations necessary to do effective testing is simply too much. Large corporations (3DO, etc) have the resources to do that. 2nd: Looking at resolutions, 800x600 is truly on it's way out - in favor of 1024x768 and above. To provide some justification of this, I looked at the counter details from those that visit my website (BigCityBaseball) and found the following; Since December 1st 2001 : 1600x1200 55 visitors 1280x1024 932 visitors 1152x864 204 visitors 1024x768 3,586 visitors 800x600 1,265 visitors 640x480 32 visitors "other" 229 visitors As you can see, 800x600 represents about 20% of the total - and considering that most of my visitors are "probably" OOTP owners, I would think many of those 800x600 individuals can use OOTP just fine. The major thing that can be summarized from the numbers, however, is that a full 75% of this group is already at 1024x768 or higher. For Markus to spend any effort on the other 25%, when many of them will be replacing their machines over the next 12 months - doesn't make much business sense. I hope this helps, and was only provided to help explain the issue
