JAttractive - A Response to your question
I didn't want to respond in the other thread because I didn't want to take over their thread talking about my leagues.
Baseball Maelstrom is a modern day league started in OOTP3 using Rolens 2001 rosters for OOTP. AFBL is a fictional league where the players are from baseball folklore. They come from places like the movies (Bad News Bears, Major League, Bull Durham), books like the UBA. ABA is strictly fictional. Created using the OOTP exclusively. Started in 1987. We import about 5 mediocre players that defect from MLB each year. Joe Magrane was one of the inital guys. ORB is a historical League starting in 1982. We're still in the 1982 season. GDBA is another historical league that I just got in. It's in it's 17th season. It started in 1920 and we're now drafting for 1936. As you can see, my leagues are pretty different from each other. The Maelstrom was the first online league I ever joined. I really got hooked. So, I decided to pursue some other leagues. Eventually, I decided to get involved in a league for each different way you can play OOTP, fictional, historical, current day forward. Set my max to 5 and waited for openings to come along. I waited for an opening in the GDBA for a very long time. I decided to quit playing fantasy baseball this year. I use OOTP online play to replace the thirst for the stat crunching that's involved with Fantasy Baseball and I've found I like online play more. It's free, you play year round, you meet some really good people, and you compete against humans. I find my self thinking about my teams when I'm trying to go to sleep at night. If you have the time to commit to it, I highly recommend finding one to enjoy. |

Yeah I see so many leagues and so much talk about them and have always wanted to join one but didn't have enough confidence in my knowledge of the game until recently. I also assumed they were a time-sink but recently read a post where most owners claimed they only spend about 10 minutes a day and an hour a week in total per league. I could easily fit something like that into my schedule and now that I understand the game far better I have started checking this forum regularly looking for a league that fits my style (fictional players, dedicated commisioner and owners, etc.).
I really like the idea of experiencing all types of leagues like you are doing there,. It sounds like a lot of fun and certainly would keep things a bit less confusing. Myself, I enjoy my solo league(s) and would rather split my time between solo and online for now but I can easily imagine getting hooked and solely playing online eventually. Good to hear they are so enjoyable. |
