Question How much time do owners spend on their team?

The idea of joining a league sounds appealing to me. However, I'm curious as to how much time (on average) do people invest in their teams?

It differs between each owner. Some spend the least amount of time possible, others may spend hours tweaking their team. It is more a matter of how much time you feel you need with your team.

How about time spent so the team is reasonably competitive? I'm in a fantasy baseball league on Yahoo! and can tell who in my league are active managers and who aren't.

For me it depends on the situation and point in the season and how my team is doing. Normally only need 5-10 minutes a day tops, but usually spend many more just looking things over, etc. or talking trade.

USBA (Los Angeles Crazed Natives) - Lots of time writing articles and looking over my box scores and such. If you had any familiarity with this league you would see I probably spend a ton of time getting to know my team inside and out. I know these fictional players like the back of my hand. Without looking it up I can tell you Cade Laurel hit .342 and Keenan "Fleetfoot" Mack stole 23 bases in 27 attempts. Probably 2-3 hours per week broken up into small intervals. If Dan ever tries to disband the league, I will track him down and tie him to his chair in front of his computer.

Official OOTP League – A few minutes a week. I used to write lots of articles, first Gammons style and then AP style. When it became obvious that no one was reading them and few others were going to do the same, I stopped.

HBL (Tulsa Chiefs) - I spend only a few minutes between each sim on roster maintenance and with financials off, it lessens time spent on that aspect. However, with the rich database we have already built under Mark and now Joe's direction, this league has a ton of character even only 4 seasons in. I spend time looking through the database and getting to know the players and teams.

Baseball Maelstrom (Los Angeles Dodgers) - I spent far more time on it the first season than this one but I still am one of the most active as far as voting on power polls and writing team articles. The completely over-active trading frenzy in this league has soured me a lot and I prefer fictional over real players but the Co-Commissioners have made this league a very intriguing one. I spend a couple hours a week some weeks, less others.

ABA (Ft. Worth Roadrunners) - still new to me and I have not gotten into it as much as other leagues, probably because it is very large and it is another set of fictional players to learn. I'm getting there and my team's performance thus far has certainly sparked my interest. I'd say a hour+ per week but I'll spend that much on the awesome All-Star ballot Hammer755 produced this week!

I have the inevitable bonus of being able to write league articles and read box scores at work so I spend more time than most do and that allows me to be in several leagues and maintain a high level of participation. I spend 7+ hours per week probably on OOTP leagues but much of that is during slow periods at work. I never neglect my two young daughters or wife for OOTP! Well, nearly never!

Sometimes you can and sometimes you can not!
In USBA, the team that finished 2nd behind my LA team seemd to be ownerless all season long. The team owner never posted once on the league message board once the season started, never answered my email, never seemed to be on AIM. I figured he was gone. Still his team remained hot on my heels. The commissioner told me he was submitting lineups each week. It just seemed like the team was pilotless!

I'm currently in GMC, and overall I'd say I've spent quite a bit of time, organizing depth charts, looking at possible free agent ad trade moves, and searchig for the answer to help my team to the top.

I think you'll fid your amount of time spent will depend on the league. Like LivnLegend said above, why put a lot into your league when no one in the league reads the articles you write, posts on the messageboard, etc.

I spend probably 7-12 a week looking at my leagues, fiddling with lineups and such.

I'm in 4 leagues right now and I spend at least 1 hour a day on OOTP leagues. At least...

Sometimes I start a trade discussion and don't finish it for 4 hours!!!

I love this game

Me too... I try and post things on my league message boards frequently, little tidbits about your team complaints, etc. But it can sometimes be frustrating when it seems like no one cares.

Lancer you can delete the extra copies... just click edit and then the box at the top of the edit post dialogue and they'll go bye-bye.

I spend between a few moments a day to an hour looking and playing with my teams. Somedays I spend no time, some days I spend lots of time.

Well, I spend several hours each weekday (most from work) on the league I co-commish (Baseball Maelstrom). I also spend probably 10 minutes per day or so on the other league I'm in (New World). In addition to that, during the peak times of the season, I spend considerable time as an agent in the FBBL. I wish I had the time to participate even more than I do, but between family and children and work and school (should have my Bachelor's in a year) it's tough to find the time.

My only suggestion would be to start off small and only add a league if you're really sure you'll have the time to devote to it.
