6.03 patch... I think I boogered it up

Running OOTP6 (no patch), I completed the 2004 season with no problem. Then we had the Rule 5 draft, and that went fine, but the PC crashed in the middle of the waiver period.

Oops. When I rebooted, everything was honky-dory, except for one thing: There was no button at the top of the main (standings) screen that would allow me to move on to the next phase of off-season fun.

Basically, I run a Career league in which all of the teams are computer controlled except for mine. So what should have happened is that the game would sim the waivers period, with the other teams selecting whomever they wanted. And then there would ostensibly be a button allowing me to proceed to whatever the next stage is. There wasn't, so I poked around the setup menus to see if I'd missed something. I opened up Waivers, but there was nothing there that seemed to automate anything.

So I visited here, and I saw that there was a 6.03 patch. Whee, I said. This might solve problems. So I downloaded it and installed it. And when I reopened OOTP.. there were no teams. Or players.

Whoops, I thought. I screwed that up a little. Little did I know my screwing up hadn't even begun. I chose the Restore League option, ignoring the warning that said the current league would be deleted. Restoring not only didn't help, it created fresh (blank) .dat files for teams, players, and so forth, basically overwriting the old league with an empty one.

The weird thing is that all of the 2004 info appears to still be there, somewhere. The ALMANAC for 2004 is intact, and all of the players are there. In fact, all the info from the 2004 season is there. It's just that none of the teams and players show up in the game itself, which tells me I basically have a brand-spanking-new league going.

I'm probably completely screwed here. I have stats going back to 01 in OOTP, and if/when I do OOTP7 I'd like to pick up where I left off. Does anyone know if I can use the info that's in the almanac - or elsewhere? - from 2004?

(As an aside, I'm a little confused about the patches. How come 6.03 was free, but 6.10 is not? Why would I pay $20 for a patch when OOTP 7 will be out next spring anyway, and I'll almost certainly get it?)

Thanks for any help, although like I said - I accept that things are probably hopeless.

The patch is free! They just reduced the price to $20 when that patch came out.

True, the update is $20, not the patch. Still - why pay $20 for an update when I'm going to buy OOTP 7 when it comes out?

You mean like this one?

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/article.php?newsid=346

"BREAKING NEWS: Out of the Park Baseball Update 6.10 released, Price dropped to $19.99!"

If this means that if one already has a registered copy of OOTP6 then 6.10 is free, then it's very poorly worded. That headline certainly seems to imply that 6.10 costs $19.99.

It is just very poorly worded. Actually, Markus should probably fix that. Since I saw the initial announcement I didn't even think of how that could be misread.

If you recently got the game, the latest patch/update was already a part of it. In fact, if you installed 6.03, you have regressed to an earlier version of the game.

It sounds like your season is lost. If you backed up before you began play (which should always be done), reload that. If not, reset the league. If that doesn't work, you'll have to reset, release all, draft. If you don't want a draft, well, I don't know.

As bad as I figured, I spose. Oh, well. Not the end of the world.

Ironic part is that I had to clear a lot of HD space a month or so ago, so I removed old leagues, like OOTP5 seasons and before. Had I not done so, I coulda imported it. Sure, the '04 season would still be lost, but I'd still have the '03-01 seasons, not to mention the attributes for each player. :P

Hey, I gotta tell ya - I love OOTP. I've been simming on one game or another for 17 years now, and nothing compares to OOTP. Even if this season's lost, I'll pick up OOTP7 and use it.
