FTP export problem

I mentioned this as an aside in the thread about XP SP2 problems, but I'm no longer quite so positive it's an SP2 problem, per se. I was already having this problem with OOTP5, and have now added OOTP6, and am having the same problem with it. The problem is that I can no longer export to FTP. I can export to a file on my hard drive easily, but whenever I attempt to export to FTP, it reaches the 'Connecting to server' screen.... and stays there permanently. I eventually have to use CTRL-ALT-DEL to end the program.
The beginning of this coincided with my installation of SP2, but I have since tried everything from disabling the firewall to completely removing SP2, with no effect. I also tried deleting and reinstalling OOTP5 early in the process. The idea I have now is that perhaps somehow during the SP2 installation, some XP service must have gotten toggled to the detriment of my ability to connect to an FTP. If anyone out there is XP saavy enough to have an idea what service being disabled (or automatic or manual, for that matter) could cause this problem, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
