Do you use these guys Crackerjack? Unlimited HD space sounds too good to be true. If you do use these guys, what version of PHP and mySQL are they using?

Point Blank Web Solutions would be a great choice. Fantastic Support and inexpensive.

No dissrespect to anyone who likes Point Blank, but their bandwidth and hd limitations pale compared to their competition and do not meet the requirements that an online league would need.

With a forum/Cato/BOSI a league would go over 400MBs real fast and a decent league with activity would pass the 7GB limit within 2 weeks. For $8 a month you can get a ton more HD space and a ton more bandwidth than Point Blank offers.

Weird, none of mikes league have any issues at all. In fact, he just switched to a bigger server last week if i remember correctly.

Oh, and i'm in ATD, DSB, POTD and ULB which are all his league. Been in those leagues from the start, and never incountered a problem...

That's because Mike and his wife own the hosting company.

Great hosting...Very Reliable!

EDIT: Cawunited also offers free phpBB or IPB message boards, even if you are not paying for their website services.

I don't mean to trash on anyone's business. I'm sure they are fine, but you can get more for $8 a month and in my experience even the $8 doesn't meet what I would consider minimum online league requirements.

I've only got 6 years of history, with the normal online league stuff; forum, bosi, and cato and am currently running at over 850MBs. I did mistake my bandwidth useage. I have sometimes gone over 7GBs in a month, but I average around 6GB currently, so 7GB would probably cut it, but would make me nervous of being 'dinged' extra charges in a heavy month.

Indeed... Christina can build a website with the best of em also.

While the space they offer for the money might be lower then others, i feel the web support she offers makes up it. In my case it has anyway.

I would go with All in one Hosting. http://www.allin1websolutions.com/hosting.php

For 10 dollars a mnonth you get 600MB Space and 10,000 MB of bandwith per month.

The webhosting company is run by CommishJoe he is always on and also willing to help you with whatever problems you are having

DO they really offer PostgreSQL as part of the basic package as it says on the link?

I'm looking (well haven't started yet, since my current package doesn't expire until March) for a host that supports as much HD space as possible, PHP >= 5.0.x and mySQL >= 4.1.x. While I'm not currently using anything that relies on PostgreSQL, that would be a big plus, I wouldn't mind porting some stuff to a "real" database.

We use Cato and everything else (excluding BOSI for personal reasons) and i dont even hit 250MB so im not sure how someone could reach 850MB. Now i know full well that you arent "trashing" us, i dont feel you are like that so dont worry about that, BUT...make sure you know for a fact what we offer as most of the extras we provide are not listed and the plans that are offered are in fact big enough. My main site, simleaguecentral.com, doesnt even hit 850MB and that is with all those downloads that are on there and the bandwidth for the main site is 485MB. There isnt one customer of ours that is even close to using up space so trust me when i say there is plenty of room in the plans we offer ....but please understand that i dont think you are bashing, i just think i should clarify what has been said so that people dont have the wrong information which was given

Interesting Halofan - I looked, here is specifically what I have

DB usage (forum/BOSI) = 100 MB

7 OOTP HTML sets (6 years history +currrent) at roughly 50MB each = 350MB

CATO = 150MB

That is 600MB right there, then if you count the file space used by the programs + the small handful of downloads necessary for the league GMs and the gap is closed to 850MB relatively quickly and our league doesn't use player photos. I realize we don't need all our past OOTP HTML sets and they will be the first thing to go when I start hitting my limit, but the GMs love them and use them all the time.

Like I said, I'm not bashing anyone hosting plan, it seems like everyone and their brother are a reseller now days. But many of the ones listed here are not very competitive with the major players out there and they all pretty much have huge bags of goodies so I don't think the extras mean anything.

So I guess my point is anyone looking for a host should do their own homework and be sure to compare. Here is an easy place to start.

wow im not sure then cause the only thing that we dont use that you have is BOSI. our sites are database sites also and we dont come close to 300MB and like i said we use the same things you have and like you we dont use the photos cause that can get WAY to crazy as im sure you know. But i was pretty surprised that it takes up that much space cause we have the same things and i dont think BOSI would make up the difference, although i have seen stranger things haha........but yes i do recommend that people look around and get exactly what they want and a big problem is that some possible customers for webspace dont ask the questions they have cause they think that they are asking dumb questions and that isnt the case as my wife is up late with her business partner answering questions....me however, dont come to me about getting space cause i have NO clue except for the basic knowledge lol

I highly recommend http://www.cawunited.com

The owner of the hosting service is on AIM 24/7, so reaching him for assistance is no problem. I talk to him everyday, and have had many of my issues, caused by my stupidity, fixed in less then 5 minutes.

He is constantly upgrading his service, and his servers. His service is very reliable, and has basically no downtime. As you can see by his hosting plans, you get a lot of space for your money. He is even considering offering a free web hosting plan, although that is still in the works.

I also love his message boards. You can get the latest versions of phpBB or IPB for FREE. I was using Proboards, which I hate so badly. Now, my league is switching over to a brand new IPB v1.3 message board.

Neal, could you PM me his AIM? I'm trying to find a decent host that offers mySQL >= 4.1.x. His website doesn't show what versions they use.
