Seeing the FaceGen pics was an eye opener. Distinctive human- like pics, adds not only personality but another dimension to fictional leagues IMO. Bigtime thumbsup.

I wasn't aware of this project. Very nice idea, I've been discovering myself how nice it is to have faces to go along with the names in a fictional league. This last weekend, I created almost 150 faces in a start to my fictional league.
I've discovered Irfanview is invaluable in this effort. I download 25 faces at a time for a team in a folder, then use the batch conversion in Irfanview to do the next few steps. First I use Irfanview to open up the PNGs then set the following in batch conversion and advance options: Set it to convert to bmp. Select a folder I have named facetemp for where they are to be saved. In advanced options, I set it to crop to a size of 120x180 beginning from position of X=40, Y=5, then resize the picture to 90x135. That does the trick nicely to get a good shot of the face and resize the picture down to OOTP size. Once I have that done, I open up the facetemp folder and go down the team roster, giving the OOTP name format to each of the BMPs. Once that's done, then I use to Irfanview to batch convert the BMPs to JPGs over in the OOTP6 photo folder for the league, also setting the JPG save quality at 90% and importantly not to crop and resize as those options will remain in effect from the PNG-BMP conversion if not deselected. When that finishes, I cut and paste the BMPs to the OOTP6 photo folder, and boom, a faceless team now gets faces after I enable the photos. Of course, if it weren't a league I was already playing, I would have done the p# format and been done with it in that random facial shot assignment anyway. |

Unfortunately, I know of no way to automate that process to do a batch job like Irfanview can do. A person would be left with doing each picture one at a time unless someone knows of a program that could do such a batch conversion. Again, this is a terrific undertaking on your part. It's very cool to open up the news and see pictures in with the stories. |

If I only knew ...
I started a project similar to this a few months back and then aborted it. What I did was get 500 pics from MZItalia then copied the hairstyles, beards, and mustaches and created templates. Withthe same image you can get a lot of variation. This was the message I put out a while back and got very little feedback, so I aboted the project and deleted my templates....now I wish that i had not done that.......

The 14 images are the same base player with different hairstyles. My plan was to take 500 faces and have an average of 10 players from each to have 5000 player images. Of course the players would be without caps because once you add the caps most of the hairstyles were not seen..... My templates included 30 different jerseys and 78 hairstyles. The number of players that could be created is great and if you add facegen images and add the hair template you could get unlimited number of players......
I spent about a week to create 800 players before I scraped the plan it took about 5-10 minutes a player to add hair properly and to create the player photo, your plan is much easier since you are just collecting player images without modifying them.....One drawback is that you will find that the faces repeat each other at MZItalia also... |

I have Image Ready 8.0 CS (which came with Photoshop 8.0 CS). This preogram allows you to to record your actions and then replicate them in a matter of a few minutes. If I knew where I could get some hat templates.............

Columns I've Done: 1,7,20,21,23
Columns Pending: 3,6,9,10 Just thought i'd give everyone an update... Things are going quite smoothly. I didnt get as many faces done as i would have liked over the weekend, due largely to playing more Halo 2 than I probably should have. (As an aside, if anyone wants to get CTF going on the remade Blood Gulch map, drop me an email. tfwSeviien@hotmail.com) We're all set on the image editing front. I've gone through some dry runs with IrfanView, and i know how to configure all the settings. As far as caps go, Deitrus, you're totally welcome to try. I always envisioned this as an "open source" type project, so anyone who has a contribution to make is more than welcome to do so. That said, my primary focus *right now* is simply to get thousands of real-ish faces out to the masses... In that vein, we have just over 500 faces in the bag, so we're already 1/6 of the way to my goal of 3000 faces -- and that's not even counting the efforts of Burto1945 which should push us close to 1000 faces. On my own, I think the best i can do is a column a day. I spend my work day doing tedius stuff in Excel, and this isn't really much of a release from that With no new outside help, that would put release about 3 weeks away barring anything funky. Thanks guys!

Goddamn real life is getting in the way for me. Can't do it on this system, and my other one is busy.
I think if you're going to go all out, 5000 may be a good target. If you take the two existing fictional packs and combine them (which I've done for one of my leagues), you get a combination of Facegen and real life faces. I've got about 3200 faces there. Throw in 5000 from THIS project would give me almost 9000 unique faces. I'd have long forgotten the early images by the time it looped. Of course I'm not sure how OOTP reuses the ID numbers. Anyone know? Since I have a small 12 team league. If it reuses, regardless of the ID's you have covered for graphics, my idea is kinda pointless. |

Well, I wish I could say that I've got all my columns done, but unfortunately, I have had no time recently. I plan to get some done tonight, hopefully I can get at least two of the columns in. But don't think I have forgotten about my contributions, I am just going to need a little more time than what I first figured. Sorry. I'll get them out soon.

Keep up the good work
As someone who wants this done but just doesn't have the time (new baby), I want to say I appreciate the work you guys are putting in. I played with that generator about a week ago, and thought it had potential.
Big time kudos to you guys if it happens. I, for one, would be truly in debt. |

Put me down for column 27 (assuming it isn't already taken...I'm assuming that the excel file is regularly updated so that done columns will be blue once taken?)...
I'll start with just that one column even though its very likely I'll be willing and able to do more. I just don't want to sign up for more than one column without first trying one column to see what its like.

Would it be possible to use these faces for a MLB league as the rookies drafted in future years? I'm in the year 2042 now and it would be nice to see faces on my players.
oh yeah, if its possible, how would i do it? I'm also willing to help the effort. |

To add new photos just look at the new players' front page screens (the one with all the ratings) and there should be text in the photo window saying something like p345.bmp not found. or p1354.bmp not found...whatever that number is that follows the p, that is the player ID number. So, go into the fictional photos that you save (you'll need to save any of them you want to use into the same folder that your MLB pics are in) and rename the fictional faces file names to be p345 or p1354 or p744 or p and then the player's ID number. Now, whether or not there is a short-cut to that method I don't know. Maybe someone else will come along and post an easier way that what I've described...so far, I just do it the way I've written in the above paragraph and it works fine, except that.. I end up having to go through each of the rookie players, look at their player display screen, look at their p-number, write it down on paper...and repeat that until I have a list of numbers....then, since I am about as obsessive as they come I also copy down the rookie player info (for each rookie) for origin, age, height and weight... I do that because then I try to select photos for those players that seem to at least not clash with the info. ..and, if I'm being especially obsessive, I will write out all of the rookie's names and when selecting their photos sit and look at each photo thinking to myself, "ok, does this face look more like a Steve or a Steven or a Jason or some other name and then I go about pairing up the photos with the names that I think somehow seem to fit them. I suppose that I figure that if I'm going to be seeing that player for 132 games per season (well, that is, my league has 132 game seasons) for many seasons to come that I'm going to want to be happy with how I've named them right from the start. One thing I want to mention though is that if you were to have a league with both the computer generated fictional faces and real MLB player photos...well, I haven't tried that yet so I don't know if I'd like doing it that way or not...the only thing is that the computer generated faces (some of them are actually quite lifelike in their own way) will be more vividly non-real in contrast to the real players (or, that is what I guess would happen...however, maybe I would get used to that anyway and it wouldn't be an issue...I'll have to try it some time and see).... ...anyway, just in case you missed it earlier in this thread, here is the link to some sample fictional faces generated so far: (actually, this link will take you to the page on which the actual link to the photos appears....the link you are looking for will be in post #18 on the page linked to below) http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...t=85158&page=1 Hope this helped. Good luck with your seasons.

Hi. I'm currently working my way through Column 27 (I'm finding this kinda interesting to do actually!)...
Anyway, I just realized that all of the numbers in the spreadsheet are a maximum of 7 digits. And, I found out that by first putting in the number from the spreadsheet and doing that photo (then saving it) and then just adding a zero to the end of that 7 digit number I get a completely new face. Similarly, if I add a one instead of a zero I get yet another face...and so on... Well, I am keeping the faces of 8 or more digits separate from those listed on the spreadsheet (they, the faces that get formed by adding a zero, one, two, etc. to the end of the 7-digit number, are being saved in a separate folder) So, unless there's some reason you'd rather that I didn't I will go ahead and email that folder too when I email the faces listed in column 27. Also, I can sometimes be a rather tough critic when it comes to having good player photos...so, just in case I am 'rejecting' too many I am saving my 'rejects' as well into a folder marked 'rejects'...that way, they could still be used later if it turns out later to seem that I have been too picky... I also, lol @ my obsessive-compulsivity, have a folder marked 'borderline quality' for those that I'm just not sure about...and, if I still can't decide before I email the folders in I'll just leave them in the 'undecided' folder and let you choose or not choose them from there. Once I've completed Column 27 I'll check back (free time permitted) and 'claim' another column or two. Thanks to everyone for all their work on this project...I think it will be a great addition to the game. ![]() EDIT: It seems that the max number of digits is 9 because if I add more than two digits it doesn't create a face. Update: I don't know if its just luck or what, but I started with the number 8177504 and then did 81775040, 81775041, 81775042, etc.... I'm up to 817750419 and I've only 'rejected' one of those 19 faces (and that one really wasn't that bad...just not nearly as good as the others: the hairline looked a bit funky)....Anyway, considering that before (when I was just doing the 7-digit numbers from the spreadsheet) my longest streak of going without photos I rejected was proabably only about 5 or 6, I found this to be quite an interresting event to at least make mention of [I have no idea, what, if anything at all, it could even mean...just found it curious]

Completed Column 27.
I will be starting Columns 28 and 29 this afternoon and evening. [I ended up with a selection rate of 55% usable faces from column 27.....however, there are still 19 faces in my 'undecided'/'borderline quality' folder (which is about 10% of the whole) which could also possibly be added to those] Wondering if perhaps we could put the columns that we claim to work on in bold and underlined as I've done above? That would just be so that it would be that much easier to scan this thread and notice what columns have been done (or are being done) already. Its just a thought...no biggie really.

Kept almost 70% of the faces from column 28....so...hmm...its not even 12:30 yet and I've finished with column 28 so I'm gonna go ahead and plan to do column 30 later on this evening.
So, just to summarize, the columns I'm working on/have worked on are: 27,28,29,30

Just so people don't think I abandoned this, I have finished columns 3 and 6 and sent them in. I will get to columns 9 and 10 within this next week.
Oh, and about celebrities, I found Jack White of the White Stripes. Weird. |
