I think many people are spread too thin. I was, I was in 4 leagues at once and the ATGC (did my team win the series BTW? I never heard anything after making it to the series, lol). People eventually realize they need to dump a league or two due to time constraints. Perfectly acceptable. Unfortunate, yes.
My league, Green Monsta has survived 13 seasons but recently lost a couple of original owners. We have 4 of 18 teams vacant and are on (hopefully) temporary hold. The single greatest enjoyment I get from leagues is the history they build. For example in my league I have now seen rookies come up, play a full career, and retire. Awesome! The record books are sprinkled with players and careers that I saw and experienced first hand. That is worth the price of admission. I hope the league gains a few owners so we can continue on with the tradition. Good topic, never ending problem unfortunately.

I'm not much of a horn tooter, but let me give a great group of guys a plug:
eMLB (www.emlb-baseball.com), which still has half its original charter members, was created on July 19, 2000, and has completed 9 successful seasons. It still runs to this day, and will be doing Game 5 of the 2008 eMLB World Series this Thursday night LIVE on WHAM Radio (Using the Live365.com program, look for the station called 'eMLB SportsNet'). This is a fictional baseball radio station where I broadcast over the internet a 'Game of the Week'. All World Series games are done in this capacity. The internet broadcast is a new feature I added this season, and has been quite a hit! This league has survived a complete engine change (Began as High Heat from 2000-2005), and through a MAJOR Labor of Love, we took all possible information, established a ratings formula for the conversion, and have been happily running under OOTP through the last 3 seasons with all historical information preserved (unfortunately not with the help of Catobase due to the HH background). What else do we do? - Audio Show called 'Knight Waves' - Can find it on our eMLB SportsNet site, top right hand corner - All sims have been run on AOL Instant Messenger in a chat room, allowing individuals at the chat the chance to make a change due to injury. - Run sims twice a week - Add newer players that are either prospects or current Major Leaguers that are not part of the file (Johan Santana to be added this season!), to help preserve the "real player" feel as best as possible, despite the inevitable switch to either historical/fictional. -Have fun! I'm proud of our little community, and wish to take this moment to thank the members of eMLB, and my Asst. Commish John Comey, who is regrettably stepping down this season in what we hope is a very temporary situation due to RL concerns. I can be a windbag! Thanks for reading...just wanted to give an FYI. Check us out, if you'd like. We most likely have one opening heading into the offseason. Will know for sure before our World Series is done by Sunday.

I will say that THE BARSL and THE SHOW are going strong the BARSL is 1/2 way through our 5th season and The Show is almost complete with it's 3rd. I know myself I joined a few leagues that folded and I believe if the commish is not 100% dedicated it will show and the league will be doomed. One thing with my The Show league is we have had 4 new GM's this season (Most we ever had) and we just put out the 2007 roll call and we are predicting 95% of our GM's will be returning....As for the BARSL 3 new GM's the last 2 seasons so I am very happy with the comitment from all my GM's...

i have to admitt that i am the reason several leagues have closed this year
when you have a team that wins 120 games season after season, the other gms get jealous and quit but can i truely be blamed for my own greatness perhaps not

It's too bad that the SBL closed too, that was one of my favorites.

In Defense of shutting down ATGC and NABC, let me explain! ATGC was a great concept, but I found that after the draft and the first few months, interest died in exports and news reports as owners found they had no real lineups to change. I think if time permitted, I would have done things differently.
NABC was supposed to be a great fictional league and was heading that way, when I found out that my very first league was going the way of the dead unless a commish stepped in to take over. That I did as it was my first and most favorite league. This didn't allow me the time to properly run NABC. I will say however that if you ever looked for a fictional league, WLB is a very well run and active league with top notch owners. We rename draftees to match the area of the world your team is located to add authenticity. I apologize to all the owners that lost out on those two projects but invite them to participate in either NARBL (long time retro league) or WLB (long time fictional league) Both leagues have lots of history and you can ask any owner in either of those leagues.

The GMC and EBL folded just due to a lack of time by the commish...
![]() Both were fantastic leagues with a great ownership base, but it was increasingly impossible to run 3 leagues at the same time, so GMC went down first. A year later, and it was impossible to run 2 leagues and do everything (website, etc), so the EBL went down. Both had fantastic runs (GMC was 15 seasons, EBL was 13 seasons)... Troy Parker is thinking of getting the EBL back up and running though, so its death may be premature...
