Rough Year for Online Leagues

With UBF (and maybe GDBA???) going down it got me thinking about what seem likes a lot of Online Leagues folding this year. Although, I can't really compare it too previous years.

Other Leagues which folded this year (No Order):

1) All-Out Baseball League AOBL

2) All Baseball All The Time (ABATT)

3) Global Manager's ChallengeGMC

4) Bottom of the 9th

5) Diamond Pride Baseball

6) Triple-A Baseball (AAA)

7) FLASH

8) EBL 13 Years!!!

9) Hard-Core Baseball League (HCBL)

10) Future League Baseball

11) Undernet Baseball League (UBL)

12) Baseball Managers Internet League (BMIL)

13) BATG

14) All-Time Greats Challenge (ATGC)

And, of course: Behind The Plate and Real Beisbol.

It wouldn't surprise if that only scratched the surface.

But, it isn't all bad:

Four Great New Leagues I've noticed, again no order:

Action Packed Baseball League (Real Rosters, Longest URL EVER)

Lords of Baseball (Historical, 1990)

NABC (Fictional)

The Money Ball Union (2020's, Fictional/Historical Players)

Hopefully, that just scratches the surface.

The UBF was a combination of things: my decreasing free time and that the league basically lost a lot of steam when we went through a commish change. The league started out in an amazing fashion, but shortly before (and after) the commish change things weren't the same.

I hated to even bring it (disbanding) up, but it seemed like it was for the best.

I know, no one's blaming anyone. As others have said, it was great of you to step up to the plate.

I didn't think that at all (blaming anyone, that is)... just giving an explanation!

Aobl

I was a founding member of the AOBL, which had a great group of managers/friends. I miss the live sims. I hope Pauly can get settled and form another league.

The Money Ball Union is a good young league with a lot of neat features, but it is also struggling to keep 24 interested / active owners. It's too bad, but it seems like if you are not a real-player, real-team league that is destined to fold in less than 5 seasons that you have a hard time finding replacement owners.

I will prop my FIBB and the MBBA as two very strong, extremely active and long-running leagues. They are both writing leagues and have a lot of cross-over owners as well. The MBBA actually has an opening right now that we have been unable to fill in the last couple days.

Not all real players leagues fold within 5 years. And also, I doubt a league like tmbu would find many of "replacement owners" you speak of acceptable.

myself i'm in the minority I beleive bcause I'm not a big fan of real life, real team, financials on leagues.

If I had my way I dont really mind the ficitional players, real teams or fake is all right, but financials for some reason I cant stand them being on. I' not a fan of free agency. a by the time i join the poor teams are usually left and your'e perminately stuck doing fire sales over and over again.

Yep, if Wal-Mart ever shuts down then we'll have a SERIOUS problem

As an aside, POTD is a fictional league in the midst of its 7th season and it hasn't been stronger. So those interested in a fictional league that's garnered quite a bit of history, you know where to look

The Regional Baseball League (RBL) also bit the dust this year.

And, of course: Behind The Plate and Real Beisbol.

Behind the Plate didnt shut down....it got rid of the jackoff commish and got renamed to IHBL .. its a real player league in its 5th season. In my limited exposure to leagues it is the MOST active league I have been in.

I prefer fictional non-financial as well. I would also love a league where all the extra v6 financial BS is turned off. I could tolerate the v5 financials for online leagues, but I really have no patience for dealing with 40-man rosters, waivers and minor league FAs (especially since it's so damn hard to know who exactly will be one.) Bleah. v6 has all but taken the fun out of online leagues for me.
