What's been the most depressing injury you've ever had happen?

So far mine has to be the 3B who was the #1 overall pick for me a couple years ago, spent the year in AAA, was handed the starting job in the majors in the next season and won Rookie of the Year.

Started off the year after that one and after he and the team both struggle initially, he and the White Sox both start getting hot and take the division lead around the middle of May when I get this message:

"3B Milan Noble has injured (Out For Season!) Stop Sim?"

AARRRRRGGGGGHHH!

So, not liking my AAA options, I wound up trading the 26 year old 3B I had down there (even though my scout said he was ready for the majors) straight up for 36 year old UI Craig Counsell, who has the high contact ratings I like... plus he won the Gold Glove at 3B last year.

Amazingly enough, the team's managed to keep on winning without Milan. If we can do this, it'll be my first over .500 season since I've started (in 4 years), my first division title, *and* my first playoff appearance.

Lot of season left, though.

In an online league, the 9th overall pick in the draft, Dontrelle Willis, started right in the majors at age 21 because of the way we import players. He had tons of potential, and was a top 5 prospect. In his first games, after retiring the first 2 batters of his major league career, went down with a career ending injury.

I had a guy that I worked like hell to get in a deal. Gave up a fortune for him. Had awesome talents and was 19. I groomed him for 3 years in the minors to make sure that he would be ready when he got to the majors and what happens? The dolt throws the ball to first and tears his shoulder apart even before he ever saw an AB. Career over. Sometimes I love the games realism but I like it better when the computer has to deal with that stuff

Two years in a row I had the eventual Cy Young award winning pitcher get injured in there first start of the playoffs!!!!!

Needless to say, we didn't make it to the world series

Damon Rutherford being killed by a pitch to the... wait, that was in a book.

Um,

I've had a lot of bad ones, too many to remember the worst at this point. A few weeks ago I lost my top two starters in my rotation within a week, one to a career ender and one to a season ender, then lost by star 3B for something like 6 weeks, which grew and grew into around 2 1/2 months.

Most depressing:

I took the time in one league to scan my picture into the game, adding uniform and evrything, created a 16 team league with draft. With my draft choice #8 - I changed his name to mine and wanted to see what kind of career I could have......did notchange anyof his ratings. I drafted a nice 2nd baseman who was 20 and decided to just put myself into the majors....

I had 5 All-star seasons and then at age 26 got a CEI, after hitting 172 homers and .312 average - OUCH!!!

Couldn't play another season in this league - Never did create myself in the game again...

I had a starting pitcher that I drafted, developed in the minors, and eventually brought into my rotation. He spent his whole career with my team. He was the #1 starter most of those years, and was in his final season (I got that "I'm hanging it up after this year" email). It was August, and he had 298 wins. I was sure I'd get him to 300, as he was having a decent year and my team was in first. Then a career ending injury! And he didn't make the Hall of Fame!!

I never use the HOF settings the game has. It's pretty terrible. There is no realistic configuration, since there are so many factors missing. I put guys in myself. Just look at the HOF in real life and see how many guys didn't have 3000 hits (or 2500 hitting over .300), 500 homers, 300 wins (or 250 with an ERA below 3.50). Ozzie Smith would never have made it, yet he's in and he deserves it.

The game needs to adopt something closer to the HOF Monitor.

True, I could have altered this to get him in. He did have a career ERA over 4 though and never won a Cy Young award. So in real life he may have been considered a borderline.

OOTP5 I had a fcitional 16 team league with 8 teams and one division. It was tough to make the series and after starting out with the crappiest possible team (last the first year and 6th the second) I began what was to be a four year run of futility. I came in 2nd, 1 game out. Lost a playoff the next year. Came in 2nd 1 game out and in the 4th year of the run had a 6 game lead on Sept 1st. The season came down to the final weekend and 5 teams had a chance to win. I didn't, once again 1 game out. This was by far the best ever end of the season race but still, after the previous 3 years and this collapse I was eager to get going. I did and once again put together a good squad and we jumped out to an early lead. My team was playing, like, .650 ball but was being tailed by another team playing .600+.

So anyways, here I am playing this league just to get over the hump to finally get to the Championship series. My attitude is a tad manic and then one game, my 27 year old, future hall of fame CF ruins his back and his carreer is over. I calmly log off, delete the league and go to sleep.

You don't have to alter the HOF criteria - you can simply click on a button to induct him, or anyone else you want, into the HOF.

A CEI to my #2 overall amateur draft pick less than a month after being drafted. The guy had SUCH potential.

I had John Thomson go down in July with a CEI. Then in the 2nd rd of the playoffs Horacio Ramirez with a CEI. This was in my 2004 league. I am in the off-season now, but I am still not over losing 2 guys. I loved having Horacio tho'.......

My superstar 1B, MVP in 2014, 46 homers and monster postseason in 2015, hit a double in his first AB in the 2016 season. He then had one of those Moise Alou-type injury on the basepath, as he ended his career like that on a broken foot.

My ace starter for 18 years was in his last season, and we're for once going for the pennant. So last game of the season, we clinch the pennant, but he gets ingured, so i'm going to the World Series against the best team in the majors with oen decnet pitcher, one flaky pitcher and two unproven starters..

SOmehow we won it though, but still had me worried for a bit

Hey, that's realistic! Prior has been injured every year he's pitched in the majors.

A ball bruiser of an outfielder I had once went back in time and accidentally caused his parents never to marry. So not only did I lose him for good, but I also lost him retroactively because he caused himself to never exist. Bummer.
