How long is a player set to auto re-sign?

What determines how long a young player will be on "automatic re-sign"? I have Adam Loewen and he is still on auto re-sign after this season (2005). I'm just wondering how much longer he will be on auto re-sign.

You get the first three years at the auto re-sign minimum salary.

Normally it is 3 years auto-sign at league minimum and then 3 years auto-sign at aribitration amount. Though if you have arbitration turned off it is 6 years at league minimum.
