Losing Money

Hey, I'm wondering whats going to happen to a team in my league that has a 120 million dollar payroll but will most likely only make about 70 million in revenue. They went to the world series last year and only made 66 million. Their payroll was much lower last season but its now gone up to 120 million. Will they lose players? How does that work? Will they be negative in cash,FA $ and Extensions?

* Forgot to add, he has $0 For Free agents already.

So the only penalty will be that he won't be able to sign or resign players??

What about a player going through arbitration?
(he only has 2 possible free agents)

Arbitration will work the same, they'll get the same contract whether the team can afford it or not. Besides no extensions and no free agents, he won't be able to sign coaches/scouts for more than some minimum (IIRC, $200,000) or draft players that want a signing bonus bigger than a similarly small number (IIRC, $100,000). Oh, and no promo days. (The horror!)

why does the artribation amount sometimes show less than there current contract.....but at the end they will get there artribation to match at least there current contract...

it just throws you off when u see a lower artribation than the current contract in the salary report...

I think the arbitration amount is based on the player's current performance. If he was totally kicking butt, leading the league in average or homers, it would be higher than what he is making.

true..

but for minimum artribation it should equal his current contract and show that on the salary report because he will at least get that or higher...

Could it be that if you were to actually extend an offer (instead of arb) at the lower salary that you could get him to sign? I seem to remember them always asking for more though.

While it may be a bit confusing until you find out that players cannot get a pay cut in arbitration, IMHO there's also some value in knowing that your player is underperforming his salary. (Wouldn't it be kewl if you could ask the arbitrator what everybody in your organization was worth?)

Yeah, that would be a nice little feature, but it may give you a little too much info.
