Anyone had Bonds fall short?

Just wondering who all has had Bonds fall short on his chase to 756.

I personally had him fall short of 715 even.

In 2004, he had a monumental season, hitting 46 leaving him with 704 (one more than what he in reality had), but then in 2005 he had injuries problems early on, hit only 9 HR with San Fransisco, was released, signed with San Diego, but didn't evne make the 40 man roster, and retired after the season.

He finished with 713, so I guess, in a way, the curse of the Bambino struck in another way.

Just wondering if anyone else has interesting Bonds totals? Anyone see him reach 800?

FYI, I just started my 2007 campaign, I play every game for my Yankees, Griffey's now the active leader with 595 (meaning Sosa retired as well, 613, 2005)

and Roger Clemens is still pitching at 44.

In my solo league, Barry Bonds hit 610 HRs, playing from 1986 to 2003. He did have two of the best seasons ever, going .372 with 65 HR and 148 RBI in '87 and .396 with 68 HR and 176 RBI.

The all-time leader for a season is Mark McGwire, who actually has the top two seasons of 72 in '87 and 69 in '96. The 2 years mentioned above from Bonds were #3 and #4.

The career leader is Ken Griffey Jr, who is still active at the age of 40 in 2010. He has 840 HR, 165 more than 2nd place Alex Rodriguez, who is also active as of the last sim.

Oddly enough, he took a very quick ratings drop and retired in 2005 with 701 HRs. Eh...

I had Thome get past Bonds and make it to 815 which still stands in 2034.

687 in my solo league. My fault, really. During Spring Training I overrode my coaches' advice and put his 10 points into batting skills instead of the reccommended "undetectable steroids". Sure enough, his skills fell to earth and he ended up short.

He only made it to 695 in my solo league.

He hit 34 HR's with 92 RBI's in 2004 then went in the tank in 2005
only hitting 3 HR's with 25 RBI's in limited playing time.

Not surprisingly he retired after that season.

In my solo league, injuries limited him to 19 in 2004 (although he drew 134 walks). In 2005, he hit 4 in 47 games with San Francisco, then was released and signed on with the Tigers, where he didn't hit any. In his 32 at-bats with Detroit, he only had one hit - a triple, of all things.

He retired after 2005 with 662 homers.

It seems almost like there is a monumental dropoff for Bonds right after the first season.

Almost like he's rarely done it..

well the game doesn't recognize that it's Barry Bonds. It sees an OF who's 40 years old.

Even within that, such a catastrophic dropoff is amazing.

At the end of his career in mine, his homerun and contact ratings were both 1's.

I think the point is that on average, 40yo outfielders rarely have the kind of success Bonds is having IRL. In fact, how many 40yo players have dominated in their time? Not many - for every Clemens, Ryan, Johnson, and Bonds, there's a ton of players like Gooden, Strawberry, Belle, and Saberhagen who have great careers but aren't very productive by age 40, for various reasons. Just the game engine doing what it should do. The fact that some have posted here stating they've got players going over 800 home runs indicates that even though it might not be Bonds, the game engine does recognize that a select few players are productive later in their careers.

I always ramp up his talent ratings a bit, otherwise he tends to absolutely plummet, even by the end of the 2004 season, which we all know didn't happen in real life.

The ratings drop seems pretty typical for players at the age of 35 or older. In my 1931 league, Ruth hit 53 HR at age 36 and dropped to 19 in 1932 with basically all his ratings in the tank and leading the league in k's. He retired at the end of '32, well short of 714.

I've also noticed Jim Eisenreich from the Phillies went from a very high 60's contact (maybe a 70) in '93 to a 52 contact by middle May of '94 and there were no injuries. He's 35 in the game.

In my league, Barry Bonds hit 59 HR in 2004, 42 in 2005, and currently two weeks into 2006 he has 6 HR's and his HR rating is still maxed out. So currently he has 765 HR's and I think he has a shot at 800...time will tell.

In my experimental sim with 6.10 and WinXP SP2, Bonds has more than 800 dingers and is still dangerous in 2007.

Of course, he's a Yankee now.

Just like Pedro Martinez and "Manny Ortez"... er.. David Ortiz ended up with the Yankees in my league. It's a conspiracy I tell you.
