TBCB Random Fighter Generator v3.0 released
v3.0 (24 October 2004)
The user now enters the number of whatever he wants generated, instead of being forced to enter them one at a time. Generated things are no longer output to the console, instead only going to the TXT file in the same directory as the EXE. Several internal variables were renamed to be better read by anyone who views the source code. Massive amounts of extraneous code were deleted. Hey guys, you know the drill! If you like it, or have a complaint or something, feel free to e-mail me. Shoot me a private message if you wish too, or simply reply here. Thanks, and enjoy!

Okay So I'm A Dummy
I am as about as computer illiterate as they come. I love this utility and have used it in the past. Before it generated the fighter on the screen. Can you explain to me one more time where the fighter is generated now. Once I generate fighters, I see where it says they are generated, but I can't find them.
I know they are there some where. I just am not smart enough to find them myself. Thanks!!! |

They're in the report.txt file the Generator creates. You have to manually copy them from there into the game.

When I generate the fighters, a report.txt is created. However, everytime it creates the report file the file is empty.
Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks |

The generated fighters and so forth are automatically added in a file called report.txt, as JeffR said, which is in the same directory as the EXE. The TXT will get wiped every time the program is run, so you need to make sure you copy the file, rename it, or do something to avoid losing everything that was created unless you are finished with the list.

I understand what you are saying.
When I am asked "how many fighters do you want generated" I enter the number 2 I then press "enter" on my keyboard. A report file is generated but it is empty. Any ideas? |

I figured out what my problem was.
The utility generates the report file as soon as you enter your number of fighters and press "enter" BUT nothing actually shows up in that file unless you enter "0" to exit the program. Once I "exit" the program by using the "0" it worked, but if I exited the program by clicking on the "X" in the top right corner of the box nothing would be placed in the file. I probably made that sound more confusing than it was

One minor quibble: The large gaps in CF's belonging to the same fighter (i.e. CFv/boxer=5, CFv/slugger=11, first generated fighter) I haven't come across an "official" fighter active or retired with a gap of more than 2 between these numbers. Easy enough to change on my own (I usually average them out), but something to look at for future versions.
All in all though, fantastic program, much thanks to PyroFalkon. For What it's Worth The Fat Man |

I just want to say thanks again for your work on this utility! It is a great addition to an already great game.
It would be awesome if The TBCB guys would show you how to turn your TXT files into the files that would integrate the fighters right into the game! But hey, I guess that is what TBRP is going to do. Thanks again Pyro and Chris for your work. The way you guys are progressing with this add on feature, I am anxiously waiting to see how far you take it!!

Oh well, I was excited until I got to the bottom of this thread and realized that to put this to the use I'd like, I'd have to spend a lot of time hand-entering fighters into the game.
No offense meant to PyroFalcon, just disappointed. Is there any info at all on the RP game? Or is that just vaporware? |

Thanks for the comments, all. Getting fighters automatically imported would certainly be nice, but it's something I just haven't figured out how to get past. Maybe for version 4?
As it is, Chris has joined the US Air Force and left for at least six to nine months. He was the more talented programmer between us, and besides making minor corrections to formulas, I think my Fighter Generator has gone as far as it's going to. At least, until a sequel or something to TBCB comes out.

Do you read this board at all? Constructive criticism is always welcomed on this board, but please have something to back it up. How would you fix the program that PyroFalcon (for no money) spent alot of hours on and has almost perfected (- hacking into a copyrighted program)? What has given you even the slightest bit of indication that TBRP is vaporware? Show me one piece of evidence that this is the case? I am a fan boy of this game but it doesn't take a fan boy to call you on the carpet for this stupidity. |

Easy guys. marc420 is right about my program; it's partly my lack of knowledge about the language I used. I'm still not a GREAT programmer... maybe if I was, I would overcome the issue.
As it is, I'm sorta glad he posted something. It got this thread back to the front page. ![]() And hey, I don't mind anyone calling anything "vaporware." I'll be laughing last when I buy it after it comes back on the radar.
