No. of innings pitched

I have noticed on many occassions that on the box scores the pitchers "innings pitched" do not always add up to the opponent's number of innings at bat. Most time one gets 7.2 when the opponent has batted for 8.0, or 8.2 when 9.0 etc... I'm not referring to where the home team wins during the 9th inning. Is there a rule about "innings pitched" credited to pitchers that I'm missing or is this a bug?
Thanks

Could you word your question a bit more clearly, or even better post a representative boxscore?

Simply put (I hope), the box score shows:
IP H R ER...........
Pitcher 1 6.1
Pitcher 2 2.0
Pitcher 3 0.1

Total 8.2 (8.2inningsx3outs=26outs)

But the opponents batted for 9.0 innings (9inningsx3outs=27 outs)

Hope this is clearer............cannot post actual box score right now.

Dario, I take it from Eugene Church's thread that you're using 6.10 -- I can't help much, since I'm on 6.03 still, but I am familiar with what you're talking about. If I recall, this issue seemed to be most prevalent when a line-drive or fly-ball double play was involved. (That's merely an estimate on my part, though.)

Even if that is just a guess, it is nice to hear something about this little bug. It has been around for a while I think. I had thought maybe it popped up when there was a pitcher injury, but this sounds more reasonable.
