RLPA openings: sabermetrics and building your own team
***Commish Note 10/30/04: MN and AZ are available, while SEA, LA and NYY are not. See the 5th post for details on available teams***
hi all, the Replacement Level Players Association (RLPA) has openings in: SEA LA NYY the league webpage can be found at: http://rlpa-ootp-online.com many of our members are readers of baseballthinkfactory/baseballprimer... and we were even cited as a news story on baseballthinkfactory.com. the league began one season ago with a league-wide player auction (perhaps unprecedented in OOTP history). nearly 90% of players are free agents as we begin our first offseason, so no one will be stuck trying to rebuild an awful, salary-constrained team.... everyone's got a chance to contend through smart ownership. the free agency period is beginning now, so it's an excellent time to join. we've got a great set of committed (and sabermetrically-savvy) owners, live game broadcasts for the playoffs, and a commitment to running the league as a democracy. the only requirement for ownership is that you be in no more than ONE other OOTP league... if you like baseball and are a seasoned or even brand new OOTP6 player, the RLPA is for you. you can inquire about ownership through the commish email link on the RLPA front page (http://rlpa-ootp-online.com) or by emailing me at sweitze@gmail.com we'd like to fill these teams pretty quickly so they can particpate in the free agent bids.... send along an email. thanks! How can NYY have only 2 players on Major League Roster? What happened to them?

heh, looks like i need to explain a bit more...
the league started with every single player being put on the auction block for a one year contract. each team started with 67mil in revenue with which to fill their team in the auction... there were some crazy winning bids (Bret Boone, 10mil.. my bad) and some crazy good deals (Jody Gerut for a mil). some teams (Boston, Anaheim) signed several players to contract extensions, while some teams signed only a few players (or even none). around 90% of the players are free agents in this first offseason, which we see as a gigantic advantage to the league, since the teams that will be getting new ownership won't be hamstrung by bad contracts, horrible revenue, or seeing all the great players already signed long term with other teams.... next offseason won't be so kind to teams, as a lot of these first FA signings will be for multiple years. so... yes, the RLPA is a great place to join an established league and still be able to build your team the way you want to. http://rlpa-ootp-online.com Last edited by sweitze75; 10-21-2004 at 06:09 PM. |

two new teams
We now have AZ and MN available, as NYY, SEA and LA are filled.
MN has one of the top farm systems in the league, while AZ was in contention for much of 2004, and returns several high end second year players like Joe Mauer and Adam Loewen. Both teams have a ton of money to spend on free agents. We are at day five of the free agent period. The league does require a lot of time in this initial offseason with so many available free agents (this is an advantage, since new owners can be in an established league but not have to pay for the mistakes of a previous owner). However, after this offseason, we are not a particularly high impact league.... two 15 game sims a week, with pretty simple roster management. We've also got a great core of 20 committed and interesting owners. If anyone is interested in team ownership, please email me at sweitze@gmail.com so we can get you started on signing free agents etc. and building your team in your own way. Thanks! rlpa-ootp-online.com |

Bumped by an RLPA GM who knows the AI will outbid him for a certain crucial player if any clubs have to be taken over by the computer.
Also, last I heard the Cubs are now available: they have the first overall pick in the draft, /and/ they're not significantly worse off than the other teams in the league because, as Scott said, almost /everybody/'s a free agent, and almost every team has to fill out its whole roster in free agency. I'm not the Commish, though, so I can't swear on my mother's grave the Cubbies are still open. But you can always e-mail him and ask. |
