Moving Pinch Hitter into the field

I think the following is legal in baseball, how is it done in OOTP?

1. Pinch Hit for the pitcher, using Player "A", at slot #9 in the batting order.
2. Inning ends.
3. Leave Player "A" in the game and put him in (lets say) Center Field. At this point, I believe he would take over the spot in the batting order occupied by the CF he is replacing (lets say slot #3).
4. Put in a new pitcher, at spot #9 in the batting order.

Whenever I try to drag a PH to a new spot in the batting order I am tokd that you can do that after the game has started. Is there another way to make this change happen?

Apologies if it is not actually legal to do this in MLB.

It's not legal in MLB. Whatever spot in the order the PH comes in, that's where he stays.

One option is a double switch. If you plan on removing the CF anyway because you PH for the pitcher, put the pithcer in the old CF spot and make the CF spot number 9 in the batting order. It sounds like to me that this is really what you are trying to do.

Remember, a double switch is typically used to put a new pitcher in the game, and not have him bat for hopefully 2 or so innings. By say PH in the 9th spot, and putting the pithcer in the 8 spot, you get 7 more batters before you have to worry about how well your new relief pitcher will fair at the plate.

Just some thoughts.

By the way, I love the American Leauge New York Yankees, but I hate the DH. Go figure.

Exactly. When you pinch hit for someone, they must stay in the lineup at that spot. If you pinch hit for the pitcher and leave him in taking over for the center fielder who was originally 3rd in the oder, the pitcher must come in and bat in the slot where the replaced batter was batting (in this case, 3rd.)

Thanks for the replies. I use the double switch all the time also. I simply believed this was allowable.

Now what I would like to see in a future version is an editable number of men on the roster, not just 25 or 40, and then allow a player who was taken out to be put back in. Different leagues have different rules you know. But the player put back in will still feel the effects of having played that day.

In regards tothis,I once saw the Cubs put their reliever Les Lancaster into the game, have him pitch to one batter then move him out to Leftfield for another batter then move him back onto the mound. Very different. Good old Zim.

Holy moley. I remember that! I used to watch the Cubs almost every afternoon on WGN because there were no FSN's showing the Cardinals back then, so it was Cubs, Braves, or Mets (on the NY superstations we got for awhile) or nothing. So I decided rooting against the Cubs was much more fun than watching the Braves (back in the 80's when they blew).

Anyway, the reason I'm shocked isn't that I saw it, but it's because I didn't remember it, and it's brilliant! When I'm down to one lefty in my bullpen, and the other team has LLRLL or something coming up, there have been a couple cases when it would be beneficial to put that lefty on hold while the right handed hitter was up, then get the lefty back in there. I never even thought of this tactic! Bless you, Zim!

If I remember correctly, it cost Harry Carey a half-filled cup of the delicious Budweiser beer he was so fond of. "Holy Cow! I have never seen that done before, aye Stoney?"

There's a delicious Budweiser beer now? They must not sell it in my area.

Of course not. You need to live near St Louis to get it when it's good. Now that I live far from there, I would never buy a Bud. It's just not the same after it's been shipped a long distance.
