Texas looking for GM (Goodbye Darkhorse)

With the sudden departure of Roger Hardy, A.K.A. Darkhorse, after last weeks debacle here in these forums, Roger has decided to leave OOTP forever, deleting the game from his hard drive. A sad day for the OOTP community and of course, my league, the Lords of Baseball. The search will now begin for his replacement. Were a historical league in our 2nd season (1991) and the league is looking in very good shape, thanks to our hard working GM's. Come and visit us and look around and you will see that we have a very good quality league, one I'm proud of. What I'm looking for in a GM is a person who can devote themselves and contribute by writing articles about their team and maybe comments about what is happening during the season. Here is the website where you can look us over. Please read the rules, since we do have some that are unique. Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you. BC Stone (Lords of Baseball)

Mad at the forum moderators, so quit playing the game. Who is that penalizing?

^^^ What he said. Seemed to me he was asking for it but what do I know. Most seem to be behind him so I'm sure I'm mistaken. Hate to see him go but a little different approach would have helped.

I had years of fun with the PWBL.

BC and the LOB GM's have put together a league to be proud of. That will not change.

Anyhow, effective immediately, I'm resigning as Texas GM and deleting OOTP, in all it's versions, from my hard drive. I've turned in an export for this sim, so the team should be covered until Monday. It's been a pleasure. The best to you, one and all.

Regards,

Roger,

and out.
It sounds "different" in his own words.

He was sick of OOTP long before any of this went down.

That's what I figured. I couldn't imagine him (or anyone) quitting playing a game simply because of forum issues.

Consider this a bump for what looks like an awesome league with quality owners.

I disagree... when the game becomes a culture, you tend to involve them both. Especially when issues involving the game itself become fodder for flames and hassles. I have both Puresim and OOTP on my HD and I have played Puresim more at times because of what I have read here. When the dealer treats you lousy and doesn't fix your car right repeatedly then hassles you for asking them to fix it right , are you going to keep driving it and shut up?

So you've made your decision to play OOTP less because of what other people that play the game have to say?

If that's the case then your analogy of a car dealer is way off. Markus has never ever taken it upon himself to put someone down or to belittle the community that buys his product. From my understanding, he has made one major mistake that regular players are frustrated with and that's promising H2H, but not having implemented it. In my opinion, no matter how much you desire H2H, it's little reason to turn away from a game that you might have been playing since its inception. OOTP is still a great game. One may desire/want H2H, but that doesn't take away from the "original" product.

But, I went off on a tangent. My point is you seem frustrated or at least unsatisfied with the support given by players of the game. The company, however, has done very well in answering questions, fixing bugs, and releasing patch after patch to people that complain more than they appreciate.

If, in fact, your opinion of this company is affected by what the posters of the board are saying day in and day out, then maybe, just maybe, the company is right when it feels it needs to address the issues of the board.

Interesting perspective and more or less right on.. but my point was this is the only place where one can get "information" about the game. Fixes and suggestions are part of the culture here. When Markus posts within the threads, he is giving legitimacy to the board itself as an extension of the company. Moderators give the impression that they speak for the company, or at least have an more informed opinion. If Steve says it, then I assume that its part of the "official response". Then who is to say other moderators dont do so also? In fact, they reinforce that opinion when they post. Henry almost certainly gave that impression. So to modify the arguement, I dont think that, say, MD speaks for the company but I do think that moderators do, even if they are average joes.

But therein lies the problem. You are 100% right when you say Markus has never belittled anyone. But Markus would talk privately to "X" thus reinforcing the perception that "X" was "Involved" in the process. And those are the psuedo-offical responses I think people have a problem with. I am not saying thats the way it is now, but I can see why this guy was mad.
This is the OOTP devlopments board and as such remains the only source of info for the players of the game. I agree, if it isnt in the best interests of the company, please do something about the board. But I dont think that just because Markus didnt say it, it somehow isnt reflective of the company. IF you go into Blockbuster and someone gives you a hard time, then you are mad with Blockbuster, not the guy in the store or even the guy in line who is rude to you. You are upset because the company allows such a thing to happen in their store. You dont say, I hate that particular store at such and such an address, you say, oh that company is horrible. Fair or not, thats the way it is.

In other news, there's an opening in an A-1 Aces league, with an excellent team!

Perhaps I misunderstood you then.

I took it as if you were referring to regular posters, not the mods. If your argument is that you are turned off by the way the mods handle the board then I can understand your analogy. Do I agree that the mods may cause this issue? No. But, I'm also not saying that you feel that way.

I guess I'm a bit confused then. I have not come across a time when a moderator on this board did something seriously wrong. Perhaps you might care to refresh my memory if there is such an instance.

I do agree with the Blockbuster example. Again, I perceived your post as referring to the people that buy videos from Blockbuster. Take for example a renter degrading you in the store. You wouldn't hate Blockbuster (unless they handled the situation poorly), but the renter. But, I definitely understand what you mean now.

And not to challenge you in any way, but I'm just not aware of a time in which a moderator pubically gave reason to dislike the company.

Where were you during the whole "where is Markus" discussion? LOL That's what I basing my point on. I typed a long rehash of the issue but then I just said, let it lay in the past. Whats the point? Let's just say there was an incident and that it was resolved to everyone's benefit. But I also think that people who are leaving the board now might have a different issue, feeling they control the board and not the company, thats just my take and I am sure its wrong. My whole point was to say that I can see where being mad at the board would affect your POV of the game. Thats enough said about all that and I thank you for your posts, YankeePride.

OH I found the link to the thread I was referring to....
