No 3-pointers in the NBA?
Not yet anyways. Not likely that they'll ever do such a thing. And such a thing is outrageous in my mind.
hxxp://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1902007 It's saying the NBA Development league will be calling all FG's 2 pointers until the last 5 minutes of the game and overtime. Whattt!? |

Well it's not like anyone in the NBA can shoot from outside anyway, so this might not be a bad idea.

What's wrong with that? I think the 3-point shot has tainted the league. Field goal shooting is down because everyone wants to hone in on the 3. It would open up the game tremendously if everyone wasn't standing outside the arc all the time.

ummm.... the NBA didn't have 3-pointers until the 1979-80 season.
I guess this is a big thing for you younger guys, but I for one remember the NBA without 3-pointers and still have NBA board games that do not have a 3-point shot in them.

Besides, I can't really hit a 3 anymore. I'm more a penetrate and dish guy; but I'll still score points no problem. |

This is the crap we come to expect with sports. Spiderman on the bases and the NHL on Strike.

I'm wondering if it will discourage epople from practicing field goals, which seems to be a big issue at the moment. Instead of taking away 3-pointers, shouldn't they try to encourage people to attempt field goals rather than rushing to the hoop?

I always said if there's one thing the NBA needed, it is more people trying to dunk. I think they should outlaw all shots except the dunk.

Thats one thing I can't stand people who constantly dunk instead of shoot.

It would help field goal percentage tremendously. Because if every shot was worth the same, wouldn't you try to work it in more for an easier shot than jacking up a 22 foot prayer all the time?

I think this would really encourage an inside game and limit jump shooting. The center would become the focus and passing and moving without the ball would be vital to setting up scoring opps. Brilliant.

Gets it. Are you saying that the will be worse at jump shooting? The point would be getting rid of the jump shot, and only those who are halfway decent at it would be taking it anyway. It would be a plus for the game. Make it much more competitive. |
