Lineup changes during game
Tried switching my DH to a regular position and making my pinch hitter to DH. Game wouldn't allow it. Is that how it works in baseball, Your DH is your DH the rest of the game, you can't later use him as your 1b?

That's correct.
The DH is locked into his spot of the batting order. So if the DH assumes a position in the field, the pitcher then must bat, and enters the lineup in the spot formerly occupied by the DH. The DH can be pinch hit or pinch ran for, but immediately that batter assumes the DH role, which means if the new pinch hitter or pinch runner plays the field the pitcher must bat. In otherwords if you bat the DH 6th... the batter in the 6th spot of the order is the DH the rest of the game... should someone from the 6th spot of the lineup take a position in the field, immediately the pitcher enters the lineup in the spot of the player the DH replaced in the field. The game proceeds with regular NL rules from that point on. This is MLB rule 6(10) and is quoted in several posts on this board, it seems that many people don't know of this rule or all the details associated with it. Hope this helps. |
