Don't forget the best 80s Historical league of them all...my 1987 league file! The download link in my sig line!!!
Thanks to both Simcentral and the Download Center for hosting my file. And great job to all of the league file mod makers out there! If it wasn't for all of these great files that everyone makes, I don't think OOTP would be half of what it is! |

You interested in taking up the torch to encourage people to do more historical leagues? Alternatively, want to organize a historical seasons compilation group and see just how many of them we can get done? I volunteer to do managers, minor league teams, park files, and logos.

Some time ago I contacted both the Texas and Southern Leagues to request any published schedules they still had on hand. Both leagues graciously sent me the schedules they still had on file which covered from around 1967 to the present, give or take a few seasons here and there. I did this as part of my new project to try document and digitize the original schedules for the bigger minor leagues (since I've already done the majors, I figured I might as well move on to the minors). Between the help offered by the leagues themselves and the TSN issues available online at the Paper of Record website, I've been able to find the schedules for virtually every single Texas League season. The only years I'm missing are 1903, 1961, 1970, and 1973, plus a few of its very earliest intermittent years (1888-90 and 1892). Still have a long ways to go before they're all typed up though. The Southern League situation is similar. I'm only missing a couple of seasons from when it was known as the South Atlantic League, along with a handful of years from around 1970. Of the higher class Southern Association, which played the Texas League in the Dixie Series for many years, I have almost all of its original schedules on hand as well. Anyway, for the minors, I was planning to start with doing up the IL, PCL, and AA first, and then move down to leagues like the TL and SA, and so one. No timetable for completion of this schedule project, as it is understandably huge. But on the upside, I do take some pleasure that at least one person is making the effort to organize, document, and make easily available this rarely-thought of information.

Damn, LGO...you never cease to amaze me.
Let me think about that one while I'm overseas.

No problem, just wanted to mention it for future consideration. The biggest difference between major and minor league schedules is that minor league ones are very time-compressed, meaning they play their seasons in a much shorter amount of time.
This would have some impact on the game with regards to things like fatigue and pitcher usage since there are far fewer off days than in a major league schedule. I expect it would make some difference in how an OOTP season would play or sim out. Trying to do for the minors what I did for the majors is a vast project, so it'll probably be a few years before it's all done. Mind you, I have made some progress to this point. The current tally of minor league season schedules typed up: 57 Pacific Coast League, 34 International League, 21 American Association, 11 Texas League, 7 Southern League, 3 Western League, 2 Eastern League, 2 Southern Association, 1 Carolina League, 1 Midwest League, and 1 Western International League. I also have the 1900 American League season, when it was still classified as a minor league. Haven't been doing many lately, but I hope to return to my target of typing up one schedule per day. Only takes around 30-40 minutes to do, so it's relatively quick to accomplish. |

Le Grande Orange,
I know that I'd be interested in those Texas League schedules. I've been running my own 16 team fictional Texas League for a while now, based on various Texas League teams, cities, and logos(when I can find them), so the schedules would be great for trying any form of "historical" bits. Not that it would be easy with the teams changing cities mid-season, folding mid-season, etc, as they did in the "early days".

Funny, without reading this I'm creating a fictional league right now. It will include exclusive logos and use some of the facepacks and stadiums from this board.
I don't have a name yet but it will begin in 1897 and let people create their own history of American baseball. I'll keep you updated on the progress. Christian |
