New "Glass" Ballpark Layout

This new ballpark layout was inspired by the ESPN presentation where it looks like they've put a translucent pane of glass over the field on which they superimpose the fielders, so I call it the "Glass" layout. I've made three versions. This is the standard frame in action with pictures of my hometown, Germantown, MD.

This is the standard frame with no players on it. You can put any pictures you like in the standard frame. I happen to prefer buildings and scenic landmarks.

This is the "rafters" frame, named after the ceilings in indoor arenas where championship banners are hung. The left and right panels remain free of player overlays for team honors. This example for the New York Yankees is probably extreme. You likely won't have a team with this many retired numbers or titles, but it's still reasonably readable.

This is without a frame at all. It's for pictures of stadiums without a good behind-home-plate view, but you can put in anything you want, such as wallpaper of a team or player.
- Does anyone have suggestions on improving this idea?
- Would anyone be interested in the template? I would post it as a Photoshop template *.psd file because the fields and frames are separate layers. You wouldn't be able to use this template without a graphics program that uses layers.
- Would anyone be interested in a set of "drawing board" ballparks - depictions of stadiums to be built or proposed, but never built - in this same format?

Nice idea, its a good way to give personality to different teams and cities.

I think I would like it better if the diamond was the most prominant and the 'frames' were more backgroundy . Im sure thats easy to do by changing the layer opacities.

I really like the retired numbers idea as well. It would actually give me a reason to pay attention to the #'s of players. Championships and retired numbers along with the background frames would really add a lot to fictional leagues.

I think you should dim the background photos or make more transparent so that the player names will stand out in the game better. Good work.

I think when I post the "Drawing Board" stadiums, I'll darken the field portion a little bit. For the template, I leave it the way you see it now and you can adjust it as you like.

Thank you for your suggestions so far. I'll bump this thread to the first page for a week.

Thanks for reminding me. I've had this project in hibernation. You can get a PhotoShop template of it at
my site. I will upload it to Baseball Sim Central in the next week along with other goodies.
