Changing a FA's position Affects Whether They Talk to Teams
I am in a couple of online leagues and I was a little irritated that one or two Free Agent SP or CL wouldn't talk to my team. Mostly it was the "I do not like your organization" though one said "I want to play for a winner". Anyway, goofing around, I changed that players position from SP to MR and in one from CL to MR. This was done in the FA screen during the FA offer period. After that change, I again tried to give them an offer and they were miraculously willing to deal with me. Now I didn't test this by exporting offers to these players, because I think it is cheating. But I am curious if anyone has tested this out - I only tried it with pitchers it worked everytime an SP or CL wouldn't talk to me.
Now maybe once these jimmied offers are exported they don't work when the Commish tries to import them. Has anyone got any info on this? I was just amazed to run accross it and to have it change the FAs attitude so consistently. This also could be an issue - in that if I have a MR who is headed to FA and I want to cut down on the amount of teams he will talk to, before the season ends I change his position to CL or SP. Same could be done in reverse if I want to make sure I will be able to talk to him, I switch his position from SP or CL to MR. I haven't tried this during the year with a player on my own team, trying to extend his contract. |

Issues of this nature are being looked into.

Could it be that you already have 5 starting pitchers on your roster and they don't want to play for you because there isn't a spot open?

The is a known issue. You can "cheat" by changinig a player to their cheapest position, the $ difference is usually negligible, EXCEPT if it MR or DH. Then the player becomes much cheaper to resign/arbitrate. I believe Markus said he was actually working on this one in one of this last few posts. The free agency bidding discovery is certainly interesting, I've never seen that one directly, but I may have experienced it without knowing it at the time. I had a guy who wouldn't talk to me who played about 4 different positions. After he passed me up on the first FA sim, I check him again in the 3rd FA sim and suddenly he would talk to me. I'd never seen a player change their mind during FA bidding before, I wonder if the players position was changed by me or one of the other GMs during the bidding process. |
