Facepack/Photo Help
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was someone out there who could give me a few pointers on creating player photos. I've been playing for a while, but have never used a facepack or photos. I have tons of books, photos, baseball cards... you name, I've got it. Now I'm looking to use them in the game. I've read the "how to" thread on importing .bmp's to use for the players. What I'm having difficulty with is actually sizing the images up. Is there a certain pixel size that I should be using? I've looked at other people's images to get an idea on the size. When I set my images to a similar size they end up being so small that you can't see them. So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Also, as far as editing the photos, what program do you find the most helpful? I have Adobe Photoshop 5.5, though I'm not very good at using it yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also to save file space, if you change them to indexed colors instead of RGB it saves on the file size.

Darkhorse is right about Irfanview. It's free and it's seriously underrated.

Is this why logos get spotty and splotchy on OOTPB game screens...mainly Team Setup, Main Screen scoreboard and small lineup comparison screen? I have Irfanview, but can only do a few things with it...haven't learn to use well, yet. |

when you open the program and select "batch conversion" there is a box in the lower rt hand corner that says "use advanced options". check that and then click "set advanced options". check the 3 boxes that say "color balance - " and enter 1 for the values. you should be good to go from there. ask if you need more help or i answered the wrong question

dp, thanks for the help. I can follow those instructions.
I'll see if it helps. By spotty or splotchy...probably only understood by me...I mean that there are gaps in colors...and letters will not be complete. It doesn't happen on the game's large screens...just sometimes on the medium and small screens. knuckler did an excellent logo for me...Savannah Sea Dogs...but it breaks up on medium and small screens...the small screens don't matter...but the medium screens are the Team Setup and the Game's scoreboard screens. Load this logo in the game and you will see what I mean. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-23-2005 at 02:18 PM. |

Eugene, that logo used true black (0,0,0). I know where knuckler got the logo and the logos on that site all use true black.
It is easy to remove in photoshop. I did a "replace color" on 0,0,0 to 0,0,5 There are no "splotches" as you call them and the color still looks the same. Took 10 seconds!

one tip is to NOT resize any images.
if you resize something bigger than it's original source, you will end up with a pixelated image. the more it gets stretched, the jaggier it will be. even if you go smaller, if the aspect ratio of the original pic isn't the same as 90x135, you're going to get some funkiness. and depending on the framing of the original pic, the subject matter may end up being too small to see (picture a bad thumbnail). ALL my pics that aren't 90x135 get cropped, not resized. in photoshop, I just set the crop tool to 90x135, open the picture, and drag the crop tool to the part of the picture I want. Without fail, the end result will be far better than if you resized.
