Lahman/Catobase/Nickname Question

i have a problem that may have no solution.....i am playing my first historical simulation starting in 1961, using the Lahman database & OOTP6. i am also using Catobase, and the first few seasons went quite well - until i decided to "Start a New Manager Career".

Catobase is occassionally having problems with some of Lahman's nicknames, which generates "invalid" characters that stops Catobase's stats import cold. When the "Manager" mode is enabled in OOTP6, you cannot edit player nicknames.

Is there any way around this? Would deleting all the nicknames in the Lahman master.csv file solve this problem?

Cheers,

Paul

You could delete them in Lahman's so they never end up in the game. If you like them in the game, you can delete them in the CSV files before CATO starts processing the CSVs.

Both solutions should work fine.

Some nicknames are too long to fit in OOTP's "nickname" field, which results in weird characters. Catobase might have a similar problem, in which case shortening the nicknames in the CSV files would work.

Modifying CSV's

Hmmm....well i tried modifying the Lahman master.csv file within Excel (just deleted the data in the nameNick column), but when i proceeded to the next season in OOTP6 it said "No rookies found".....can csv files only be modified with a text editor? Somehow just modifying the master.csv file from within Excel has made the file invalid.

Also, i couldn't find any files at all within the OOTP folder to edit - only players.dat - i know you can manually generate CSV files from within the League Setup menu, but those files do not contain nicknames =(

They'll be a bit difficult to read but yes.

You shouldn't have a problem editing with Excel, you just have to make sure you preserve the data and excel saves the files correctly when you save it.

If you are not careful, Excel will change your file format.

Also, if you delete a field you need to be sure your deleted the data only and not the entire field. If you deleted the whole column then you removed the field.

If the for was "first name","nickname","last name"

you want to be sure your data is

"Ty","","Cobb"

Cato creates CSVs using the .dat files right before it tries to put everything into the Access database. Its at this step, you can edit those CSVs to fix them and then restart the process.

1. Run Cato
2. It will choke on the CSVs
3. Go into options and turn off the "generate CSVs first" option
4. Fix CSVs
5. Run Cato again

You can repeat steps #4 and #5 until you find and fix all the CSVs errors.

You could use the Manager Mode editor that you can find by searching around here. It lets you turn Manager Mode off, edit what you want to edit, and then resume you Manager Mode career.
