Will this update work with a career league that is already underway ... or do you have to start a new career league to access the new features? Thanks for the help, and thanks for the update!

Yes, it can be used with a current league.

It depends on how the code is written. Not knowing how the code is written, this is an unfair statement to make.

DL bug i'm talking about

Also.. I still notice that the transactions aren't showing up with FTP exports. [eg. Player X moved from Majors to AAA.. not showing up on the html reports or in game]

Great patch guys!! Many many thanks!!

The only way for the transactions to show up in the FTP exports would be if the transaction text file was somehow included in the export and overwrote the commissioner copy. The problem would be if an owner had a bad transaction text file and the commish copy was overwritten with it, it could result in a much bigger data problem. Of course, if there was somehow another way to do it, that would be much better.

Keeping track of more statistics (whether it's minor league stats, defensive stats, or more stats - all 3 of which I'd like in OOTP5) would increase the minimum system requirements.

Regardless of how difficult it would be actually add those statistics, anything which increases the sys reqs is going to be a major upgrade.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Perhaps I should have mentioned in my original post that I had attempted the download several times before asking the question on the board. I was trying to eliminate the possibility there was just a glitch.

I made my 18th attempt to download. Still no luck. Still the same error message. I suppose I will (a) keep trying or (b) say screw it and hope to find the d/l at another location.

Thanks, anyway.

Jason, sorry but you are wrong. I'm fine without the other stats, I was just making a statement, but, using more space is the system requirement you talk about, and that alone does not constitute a major update. Just because you use more system, does not mean it's major. Adding a simple '*' beside the names of players that are over 30(just and example) would increase system requirements and by no means would that be a major update. That, in any language, would be very simplistic. I love this game, and respect the job the developers have done, but know what you people are talking about before state 'facts'. For god sake, this isn't written in ada or fortran. Anyway, again, great job Steve/Markus. I love this game.

Problem with 4.1

Okay, well I updated to the 4.1 patch last night and noticed one small problem. It used to be when I simmed an entire week or month at a time, I would get a pop-up notice whenever I got an e-mail telling me that I got e-mail and asking if I'd like to stop the sim. This no longer happens for me. Is there an option somewhere that I have to select for this to happen?

It is possible that installing the update "reset" this option in the schedule, have you checked that?

Just from observing the game itself, I'd estimate that more stats would require, as you said more harddrive space (minor league stats alone would quadruple the harddrive requirements, since you'd be keeping track of 4 times as many statistics - ML, AAA, AA, A).

Anyway, I can't imagine any developer worth their salt releasing a patch for a product that quadruples one of the system requirements. Mr. Joe Blow with an older machine and say 200mb of HD space picks up STB2k3 in a store after reading the sys reqs, then goes home and downloads the latest patch which increases the system requirements so that they exceed what he has available.

Anything that increases reqs should IMHO be a fully new version, not a minor version upgrade (i.e. 4--->5 not 4.0-->4.1).

To be honest, the ability to keep track of minor league stats exists now via 3rd-party utilities anyway. I would definitely like to see these in a future version, along with dozens of other stats that aren't kept on a career-basis (situational stats, team stats) or at all (HOF Standards, the new Runs Created formula instead of the old one, pythagorean standings, full team and league stats for everything tracked in the game).

I dunno, rather than doing a complete database overhaul in order to add one relatively minor feature for 4.1, I'd rather Markus considered completely rethinking the way statistical presentation is handled for OOTP5. It would be great if there were a section of statistics which would allow you to select different filters aka HH2k3's "league leaders" area but with greater accuracy and more functionality. Maybe it could be called "league reports" or something. The presentation and filterability of statistics on a team/league/association level is the only thing I dislike about the current interface and much prefer in HH2k3 (except that it doesn't really work correctly).

Absolutely correct. A very wise observation.

Twinky, if you use WinZip, create a new archive on a floppy, and add the zip file you d/l'd to the archive. When the first floppy is full, it will ask for another, and so on until it is complete.

I think PKZIP 2.04 also has the capability to span large archives over multiple floppy disks.

Just keep fightin' it, man. I lost track of how many times I kept trying the download until it worked properly. But keep trying, because the update was worth the wait!

I downloaded the update, extracted it, put it in my OOTP4 folder overwriting the previous file, and when I try to open the game it loads and then closes. Everything worked fine before putting the update in so I know it has to do with this.

BTW, I am running Windows XP.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

I know on my computer when I'm downloading if the transfer rate fall to slow (on my system, about 1.75kb/Sec) it will say it is completed at some point. If I try and open it will give me the invalid archive error and be of no use to me. If I look at the size of the file that I downloaded it will be a smaller file than what the file was supposed to be.

I guess if there is too slow of a connection due to the sluggish speed of using phone lines that the computer believes the file to be completed and stops the downloading process.

I only know of two things to do when I run into this problem.
1) keep trying.
2) Find a free or shareware version of a Download Manager that supports interrupted downloads. Even if it doesn't get the whole file the first time when you go back it well start where it left off instead of starting all over.

Im running XP as well but have had no trouble with the update. Are you running any software in the background. ie Real One Player is a killer for some programs.

No, everything that's running ran when I was using 4.0.

Also HolyCow98, Download Accelerator works very well with resuming downloads. You should check it out.

The estimate was about 4 weeks from the 4.1 patch, which would point to late August/early September.

Can any Beta testers comment on how the counter-offer testing is going?
