Historic Minor Leagues
Im always trying to have the 'correct' minor teams in historic replay.(while i dont change the teams every season, i do try and make occasional corrections for AAA teams) And while there are a couple of good timelines of the leauges, picking out the correct teams at the "A and AA" level can drive you crazy (in 1909 there was 250 teams in 35 leagues!!!)
Here is the 1964/5 minors (for any that care) 1965 Minors (cities) MLT:AAA:AA:A Balt:Rochester,Elmira,Stockton Bos: Toronto,Pittsfield,Winston-Salem Chi:Indianapolis,Lynchburg,Tidewater Cle:Portland,Reading,Salinas Det:Syrcuse,Montgomery,Rocky Mound KCA:Vancouver,Birmingham,Leesburg LAA:Seattle,Reynosa,El Paso Min enver,Charlote,WilsonNYY:Toledo,Columbus,Greensboro Was:Hawaii,York,Burlington Chi:Salt Lake City,Dallas-FtWorth,Quincy Cin:San Diego,Knoxville,Peninsula Hou:Oklahoma City,Amarillo,Durham LAD:Spokane,Albuquerque,Santa Barbara Mil:Atlanta,Austin,WestPalmBeach NYM:Buffalo,Williamsport,Auburn Phi:Arkansas,Chattanooga,Bakersfield Pit:Columbus,Ashville,Kingston StL:Jacksonville,Tulsa,Raleigh SFG:Tacoma,Springfield,Fresno to get full names go to this site: http://www.geocities.com/big_bunko/total.htm (Mike McCans Minor Leauge Baseball Page) Anyone else, assemble some historical minors? |

Of course, the problem for earlier years is that OOTP limits you to the same number of minor league teams at each level as there are major league teams. For the 16 MLB team era, for example, there were in fact 24 AAA level teams (though not all of them were affiliated with a major league team); OOTP would limit you to 16.
Then of course there were the additional levels of minor league ball, such as B, C, and D class leagues prior to 1963. Interestingly, the class of a minor league was determined by the aggregate population of all its member cities, and not by any intrinsic evaluation of its talent level (though in practice this is how it ended up working). The only thing I'm doing is compiling the minor league schedules for the (likely distant) day when OOTP will be able to run with its minor leagues with their own separate schedules, league alignments, and playoff scenarios. The documentation of the schedules of the AAA level of the minors is progressing well, though I'm missing most of the post-1977 PCL and AA schedules...

I thought about having historical minor lleague teams but since i satrt in 1871
with different set of teams i sctratched that idea. It would have been hard enough keeping up with the Major League team changes from that era. So now i just fill the top level with the more famous minor league teams and some made up nick names. My lower minor league teams are some of the schools from my hometown area. |
