Gatlin threw silver in 200?

Looks to me like Justin Gatlin deliberately gave away the silver in the 200m final...don't know why he would do this, except for the fact he already won the 100 maybe. But he clearly eased up before the race was finished, and I think he would have got second had he not done so.

I saw the race and the replay and from the looks of it he just lost his steam and got beat at the very end by the other guy. It happens in races like this, it's not that unusual. He didn't know for 100% certainity that he would still get the Bronze medal if he eased off so making that claim is somewhat dumb. The guy that finished in 4th place wasn't that far behind 3rd place. So I highly doubt Gatlin slowed down on purpose to give up the Silver medal.

Um, it's called speculation okay? So screw off. Still looks like he eased up, and the tv commentator at the time said so as well but did not speculate as to why he may have done so.

too bad this thread degenerated so quickly, could have been an interesting discussion.

FWIW, I believe he let up. If you watch the reply, notice how he looks over to see where the other americans are. No doubt he shut it down early...

Thanks, I'm working on it.

As long as I have such great influences like yourself to learn from, my message board posting skills should certainly get a nice talent bump.

"So screw off"

Wow! That's got a great ring to it! Mind if I borrow that line?

I agreed with the original poster, it did look like he held up. However, maybe that was just him getting tired. I thought the best part of it was the USA won Gold Silver and Bronze after being booed to false starts and no starts by the crowd. Take that people.

That "guy" is sprinting veteran Frankie Fredericks, a "legend" of some sort. I, for one, would've liked to see him win or gwt a medal. More than that silver medal idiot.

Nice.... Looks like another one to put on the old ignore list. You were out of line with the comment considering what he posted, but I'm fairly sure you won't care. We've seen it all before.

Wow, glad to know I'm not allowed to "speculate" without being told to screw off. Gotta love ignorant people.

Anybody else realize that Gatlin raced 8 times in 9 days? Maybe his legs were just a wee bit tired, no?

Quite possible and the most reasonable explanation.
