Alternative 1950s Logos
I was wondering if others would be willing to share some ideas and logos. I would like to see a set of 1950 logos for the real major league baseball teams, but something a little different. It's tough making logos from old 1950 logos, and I was thinking how cool it would be to have a nice set that was fairly uniformed in design. Eugene did something like this with his big thread. I just think that by starting from scratch, it could be a really nice set.
One idea would be the awesome circular style logos that Dbacks does. But really I'm open for new interpretations on the same teams. Any ideas, or is this redundant? |

Just as an example, here are a couple of elephant logos that could possibly be made into Athletic logos. They would be cool inside of a circle that had the Philadelphia Athletics inside of it. I think royal blue would still be best for the primary color with red as trim:

These images are just suggestions. Last edited by knuckler; 08-25-2004 at 11:11 PM. |

Sounds like a fine project...I would suggest that you post a thread for each team logo you wanted...rather than do it in one thread...and when that one is done...post another request (jdew said not to post them all at once in separate threads because it would tie up the whole front page)...I don't think the logo designers like to read through a long thread to find out what has been done. I could be wrong about this, since I am not a logo designer. Hopefully some of the designers will let you know if they want to participate and the best method for doing it. Why don't you post a request for the team logo you want...call it the "MLB 1950's Logo Project: Philadelphia A's" in the title header... then give some suggestions like you did in this thread...create a logo or two yourself...and then ask other designers to create their own version using your suggestions or doing it the way they feel inspired. You might suggest they use the historic team colors...and in a 50's traditional style. You might e-mail all of the fine logo designers and tell them about the project and ask for their participation. About 5 of you created 80 logos for me in about a month...and you were great to do revisions and perfect them, too. So it could be done again, but this time for the OOTPB Community. Hopefully, a little competition might develop as you talented guys try to show your stuff. Get enuttage and Joe Rock to post this project on their great websites and give credit to all of the participating designers. Sounds like a great idea. Hope it works out. I don't think it's redundant at all, and it actually sounds like a little bit of fun (although I have to admit, historical graphics aren't one of my strong points). I certainly can't create an entire set anymore, but I can do whatever I can whenever I get the time.

Sounds interesting, particularly since modern looking logos definately aren't my strong point. I like Eugene's suggestion that you post a thread for each team (one at a time, not all at once since that would probably fill the front page) with some suggestions.

Thanks for the help Eugene, I will post them one at a time. And D'Backs, thanks for the offer to help. I look forward to seeing what you can come up with as well as all of the other talented logo creators here.

Dbacks, thats awesome man. I hate to say this though, but our owner decided to move them to KC early There is no rush, but if you could make it so it's KC, that'd be cool. i'm sorry man, he just sprung this on us today. Thanks for the great logo man.

Yeah, I can do that. It'll take about 10-15 mins to redo the text. Not a problem at all...

Knuckler, if you want to go ahead and post a few more that you need, with some suggestions (if you have any), I can get to work on those...

I'll post this last one in here, and then start new ones for the future.
Here are a couple of ideas I had for the phillies: http://www.orgsites.com/ca/umassclas...emanLogo03.jpg (just the guy if possible) http://www.thbell.weber.k12.ut.us/Sc...wminuteman.gif The one above might be the best for the 1950s era. http://www.cityatlas.com/dataimg/liberty-logo.jpg I don't know which would work best. Perhaps Eugene cold chime in and ofer suggestions. I sort of think that middle one is the most 50ish. As always, I totally trust your judgement Dbacks. It'd be cool to keep them red and white still. Thanks man. |

A couple of other options, these are more what the Phillies really used, so I don't know. Definitely like to hear from others on what they think would look best, especially if they have some of their own ideas. So far, I can think of a colonial type guy(please share if you have a good one), the liberty bell, and independance hall.
http://webpages.charter.net/cjmpsu/56phils/1950logo.jpg http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?...d=70&logo=1272 The last one is really nice. Any ideas? |

Both are very well done, dbacks...the red pinstripes are a nice touch...like the bells on each side, too.

Here's another option. I went in and added some effects to "age" it so that it looks older. You may not like it because it's not quite as "clean" and smooth as the others, but that's the whole idea.
