Even though studies suggest that batting order has little effect on wins:
1) Speedy OB guy 2) Contact guy 3) Pure hitter 4) Good hitter with power 5) Next best hitter with power 6) Power guy even if he can't hit for high average 7) Best remaining hitter 8) Best remaining hitter 9) Leftover |

I don't adhere too strictly to the OBP theory, atleast not to the point where I'd put a guy with better OBP over a guy with decent OBP, but with a lot of speed.
1)Speedy guy with decent OBP 2)Contact or OBP 3)"Best" hitter 4)Power guy 5)contact guy who can drive in runs 6)guy with most power potential left 7)best hitter left 8)best hitter left 9)speedy guy

I do like Falcon's set-up. Speed at the top and the bottom of the order is a really good thing to have. With speed, you can stretch a single into a stolen base, and thus hopefully avoid a double play when your contact guy hits. As well, with lead-off speed, if you need to, you can make a double steal. You almost always can do the double steal if your leading baserunner is fast -- I doubt in OOTPB that there's any variables for tagging out the second runner (i.e. how fast he is or how good a base-stealer he is) other than random chance or luck.

I remember back when Earl Weaver was the king of baseball video games. I thought that having a computer-assigned lineup would be the absolute neatest thing in the world. I was in a pencil & paper baseball league, and plugged in the ratings for my team and let Earl make the call. The lineup I got was amazingly different from anything I'd tried, but I was about to face my league's ace of aces, Terry Errnt (named after the sound of a strikeout in Microleague), in the playoffs.
I decided to bite the bullet and I submitted the new lineup to my league's commish, dubbing it the "Errnt Killer" lineup. Low and behold, I won - it was a tight game, as I recall, but my light hitting CF that was put into the cleanup spot went deep for only the second time that year for a grand slam. Go figure. It was only after that I reliazed Earl did it off of stats (which were blank for the players I'd entered) and not off of ratings. I've always been a man of luck ![]() My vote? Pick 'em out of a hat

1. Highest OBP, unless SLG is also very high.
2. Second highest OBP, unless SLG is also very high. 3-8. Highest OPS, rank ordered. If you have good statistical data, Runs Created/27 is a good tool to use, as well. |
