UNREAL contract!!!!

http://www.dagordononline.com/nabl/reports/p736.html

On Day 17...

SP George Ruth signed with Philadelphia for $21.5 x 5...

STL Cardinals marked him with a ceiling of $30.1m...

So Ruth is going back to the Cardinals for a staggering $45.05m x 5...

I am not sure, but I think Philly's offer was the cheapest of any of them... no idea why the hell he would sign a $107m contract and not one for substantially more... techinally, he is insane, because he turned down some way, way more huge offers - several over $30m and one over $40m...

With the two marked signings, Cleveland's payroll is almnost $105m and the Cardinals' payroll is almost $120m... the average payroll is $58m...

Me thinks some owners looked more at name than his stats......at most he is REALLY worth 10% of what he got...

but then again it could JUST be a personal fued between owners...not that we have any of those...right Dean/Matt/me

As the Philly GM, I have to say that I think Ruth made a wise choice accepting less money to play for me.

Ruth felt he belonged in Philly, in no small part to our fans, who are generally knows as the most polite fans in sports. Philadelphia fans are known for their kind words, and really propping up an athlete who is struggling, and Ruth wanted that family attitude in the city he picked to play for.

Unfortunatly with the Cardinals marking him, I at least get a free 2nd round pick out of the deal, even though I won't get Ruth's services in the City of Brotherly Love, that was not ment to be, and St Louis will end up with his services, for more than my entire team payroll....

The next biggest contract after Ruth is $22.5m....

Before all this, Ty Cobb had the record for his $20m he earned yearly from 1915 to 1924...
