No Hitter issue

I had 3 pitchers combine for 9 inning no hitter, however it was not recognized in the almanac or in the league news. I know its a pretty rare occurrence but it would be nice to have it recorded. I don't know anything about programing so I couldn't begin to imagine if its hard to code.

If you open a file named "nohit" (or something similar) in your leaguenews folder, you'll find a .txt file. If you follow the pattern of all the other entries, you can enter your no-hitter manually there.

Hope this helps.

Also, if you open the p#.txt files of the individual players, you can add the No hitter to their individual histories.

Just to let you know that this is not a bug per se as a three pitcher "no hitter" is not really classified as a no-hitter

Not sure if you were aware of that or not, but that is why OOTP didn't pick it up...

I believe you are wrong, examine this list, http://baseball.about.com/library/blnohit.htm you'll see some in the 70's where there are combined no hitters. 9/28/75 Odom, Abbott, Lindblad and Fingers for the A's over the Angels is one, in 1990 Langston and Witt combined to beat the Mariners. I saw several in the list.

Hmmm strange... I know that they talk about "combined no-hitters" but I always thought that a "true" no-hitter involved the starter completing the game... my suspicion is that PB only records "true" no-hitters...

Wink

Well I figure a no hitter is difficult and rare, combined no hitters more rare, and no hitters in which you lose, even more rare, (Andy Hawkins or Randy Jones?). Bottom line is the other team is left hitless. I think rain shortened no hitters (5 or 6+inings), aren't counted. I tried a search on MLB.com but I couldn't get a difinitive answer.
Either way, this is a great game, with very few problems.

About five or six years ago....

....under the wonderful guidance of Commissioner Budman, Major League Baseball attempted to redefine the no-hitter. They eliminated instances such as:

(a) Combined no-hitters.
(b) No-hitters that were less than nine innings.
(c) No-hitters that were not shutouts (Joe Cowley in 1986 as an example).
(d) Nine-inning no-hitters that were lost in extra innings (Harvey Haddix).

However, the baseball establishment balked, so to speak, at the changes and pretty much ignored them. I don't know if baseball revoked the changes or not, but most of the people who compile lists still include the deviations listed above. So, for what it's worth, if you want to include the combined no-no, it's basically up to you. The beauty of OOTP is that we all are able to get in touch with our inner commissioner.
