Arrow The 2004 Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) roster set v1.1 now available!

Update: July 26, 2004 - v1.1 available
Original: July 20, 2004 - v1.0 available

The 2004 Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL, the professional baseball league in Taiwan) roster set v.1.1 is now available!

*****

Additions/Changes in v1.1:

* A new set of "action" facepack (action photos in BMP, pose in JPEG) is now available. (Most significant addition in v1.1)
* New player photos added to original facepack
* Name change to one player: La New Bears 1B Hong-Zer Tsie (It was Zer-Hong Tsie). This was my mistake in tranlation. Now it is correct.
* Actual Jersey numbers added to several players
* One player added to CPBL2004_real roster: LF Si-Fan Tsie. This player now plays for CTW after the All-Star break (he was originally not in the league).

How to manually change from v1.0 to v1.1 by yourself:

Since v1.1 is mostly for cosmetic changes (no change in ratings), you can probably do this by yourself for the league in progess. If you choose to, that is.

* New facepack and added photos to original set: Download the new version roster set and re-install with new facepack. It's in the zip file.
* Name change: Change La New Bears 1B Zer-Hong Tsie (incorrect) to Hong-Zer Tsie (correct)
* Jersey number addition:
SL SP Joe Davenport (#27)
CTW SP Danny Harriger (#24)
LB SP Satoshi Ikiri (#29)
MC SS Willis Otanez (#52)
FA LF Si-Fan Tsie (#34) (only existed in CPBL2004.lg not CPBL2004_real.lg for v1.0 of the roster set)
* New player addition for CPBL2004_real.lg:
FA LF Si-Fan Tsie (#34)
You will probably have to use Pierre's team importer utility to import this particular player from CPBL2004.lg.
After that, you can decide if you want to make him stay in FA list or manually sign him with CTW as this is what happens now.

*****

This is not a ficitional roster set. It's based on CPBL 2004 season. I believe this is the first Taiwanese Pro Ball roster set made for OOTP6. If you want some Asian baseball flavor. Look here!

Features are:

* 2004 Opening Day roster plus the significant in-season foreign player addition as of July 2004.
(no real rotation/lineup though as I don't have that information)
* Histroical stats for every player in the roster set
* Real team Logos
* Facepacks (player photos) for every Taiwanese player on the roster and most of the foreign players (a second set of facepack is added in v1.1)
* Actual jersey number for most of the players in the league (so you can look up his real-life record if you choose so).
* Two league files: one for realistic roster (limited FA list) and the other one for fantasy roster (expanded FA list)
* Beiref CPBL roster set guide

note: the team logo and player photo are taken from CPBL official website

For more information on CPBL, here is the official site.
CPBL Official Website (Chinese)
CPBL Official Website (English, brief description)

What kind of baseball can you look forward to when you use this roster set? Here is a sneak preview:

"This roster is best to be enjoyed in the role of a manager and play out every game. This is due to the fact that there is not much of room for manuvering in the league as a GM. CPBL baseball is considered to be low score game with lower HR total, lots of bunting, lots Hit&Run, and lots of stealing. Basically, the game is played more like a small-ball style. The focus of action is on the field not off the field (trading, etc.)."

Be sure to read the included guide for the roster set. I created such guide in the belief that it will increase the enjoyment of using this roster set. Don't pass it up! Acutally, I think reading the guide should be a requirement as the guide details the change in the league setting (heavily modified). To obtain a realistic stats output, ERA setting needs to be manually adjusted. It's detailed in the guide as well.

This roster set is dedicated to Taiwanese baseball, CPBL, and Taiwanese players in MLB and ***.

This year (2004), the Olympic Summer Game will take place in Athens, Greece. Chinese Taipei Baseball Team (which includes players from CPBL) will play in Oplymics in hope for a medal, possibly Gold! Let's give them the best of our wishes!!!

This is my first attempt in roster creation. I am sure the roster set is far from perfect. If you find this roster set to be sub-standard production, please excuse me on that. Any feedback/comment/suggestion is much appreciated. Thanks.

Special thanks to Markus for creating such a wonderful game!

Special thanks to every other mod makers in the OOTP community! I have now come to the real understanding that it's really takes a lot efforts to create mods.

Special thanks to YOU for choosing to play this roster set and learn about Taiwanese baseball and CPBL!

Hope you will like it.

Get it here!!!

I haven't had a chance to play it out yet but I did glance through it and it looks outstanding. Great job on the facepacks and logos for it also.

Thanks Joe.

I couldn't take credit for facepack and logos though. It's already there, used by the real-life teams. I just needed to edit the size so that it can be used in OOTP.

Thanks again for hosting the file for me.

Great site!

The utility you seek is there. However, it's a different story if you do import.

bostonbaseball86,

For export/import teams and players between, I know there is a such mod in existence that will suit your need. It's the team importer in Pierre's Utility suite. It's great for this task. Only simple drag and drop is required.

See the sticky thread on top of the Mod forum. Here is the link.
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ad.php?t=68831

However, I don't advice you to directly import the player "un-modified". What am I talking about? When I created this roster set, I actually normalized the ratings to have a similar rating distribution like a normal ficitional league and the actual stats output is adjusted by league total in order to match the real-life CPBL stats production. Why? The reasons are two fold. First, this will make the roster user to have a familiar feel on the rating. So a truly good/exceptional player will have 100+ ratings. So the player instinctively know who has the best ratings. Second, normalizing ratings will help the long-term stats stability. By matching the rating distribution to OOTP generated league, newly generated players will fit perfectly in the league. No player creation modifier adjustment is needed. Using OOTP to directly translate HR total for players in CPBL, I don't think anyone will attain the rating of 100+ and a bunch of guys will have HR rating below 20.

Anyway, if you truly want to import the player, you will have to modified the players rating after importing. Then, what should be the modifier? I truly don't know. This probably requires people like baseball prospectus to fully investigate this. However, I will offer the general "consensus" on the skill level of CPBL players. Top players of CPBL is considered to be able to become *** regulars, probably not stars. And we now have a few *** top stars playing in MLB. *** is often considered to between MLB and AAA. There is another way of judging. Foreign players ususally dominates CPBL due to selection effect. For those foreign players, some are guys in AAA and some are washed-out *** players. So, without detailed study on this, I can only offer you the above and judge for yourself.

Other thing to be noted as well, CPBL is generally considered to be a league to have lower offense level and pitcher dominates. So, there will probably different modifiers for pitchers and position players. Also, there are two top Taiwanese players currently plays in AAA: Chin-Hui Tsao of Colorado Rockies and Chin-Feng Cheng of LA Dodgers. They are expected to totally dominate CPBL if play in CPBL. Chin-Feng Cheng might well have the best power of all Taiwanese player. They are also thought to be able to do very well in ***. This is probably another way of judging CPBL players.

On the side note, Chin-Hui Tsao and Chin-Feng Cheng are expected to play for Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) baseball team in the Olympics with players from CPBL. Maybe then, you can judge the skill level between Chin-Hui Tsao and Chin-Feng Cheng and the rest of the team. Hope this helps a bit.

p.s. Let's give the best of our wishes to Chinese Taipei team. Hope they will do well in the Olympics.

Actually, Baltimore's Melvin Mora played in CPBL in 1998!

Actually, now come to think of it. I remeber there is one player (foreign player) that played in Taiwan and is currently a MLB player: Baltimore Orioles's Melvin Mora.

His stats line when he was playing for the Mecuries Tigers in Taiwan:

Code:
Melvin Mora 1972/02/07 180cm 80kg R/R SS,OF

Year Team G PA AB RBI R H 2B 3B HR TB GIDP SH SF BB HBP SO SB CS AVG
1998 Tigers 44 191 164 11 34 55 11 2 3 79 2 0 1 23 3 26 37 13 0.335

note: The team he played for is the Mecuries Tigers, a now defunct team.
One thing should be noted, there were actually two leagues in Taiwan in 1998: CPBL and TML. This might have resulted a stretch of talent. Also, Mora has probably grown in his skill set after all these years in MLB. He was also condisered to have his ability grown when played in CPBL. (stats improves as he played) Last but not the least, the sample size of Mora's stats in CPBL is small as he only played 44 games and had 191 at-bats. All I want to say is 'Judge with discretion'.

This is just to provide a interesting bit of information.

Cuss16,

Thanks. Be aware that the league is not yet tested for long-term play, even tough I have taken precuation to make sure this roster set is dynasty compatible (things like normlization of ratings). So, I don't really know how a dynasty with this roster set will go. (I consider this roster set is far from perfect anyway.) Be sure to report back if you do have a dynasty going. (Maybe a dynasty thread is in order?! ) Thanks again.

I will play it and see how far I get. And of course I will report back if I find anything odd with it. Thanks for making this set. I always wanted to play something like this.
