Spring Training tips?

Any tips on spring training? If I just do "coaches advice" does it mess up anything? How do you handle Spring training?

I don't know if I agree with that. The "ask coaches" button seems flawed IMO, in that a lot of the time, a player seems to lose ability in an area. Whereas if you leave them all at 5's without touching a thing, more often than not, all the players increase, but no decreases.

I never use the coachs' advice. To go a step further, I routinely try to rob from Peter in one player category to pay Paul in another. If a hitter has a real low talent in power, you might as well drain most if not all of the points for that area to improve the player in another. There isn't much difference, for example, if a 9 rated power (out of 100) drops to a 3 rated power hitter, so you aren't losing anything by doing this.

That's the main area I expolit, but I may also steal a little endurance from a starting pitcher to try to improve his other ratings.

I have met with great success the last 2 seasons in my online league trying to actually improve guys in certain areas rather than leaving 5's across the board. I still leave all 5's on about 50% of my players - those which I feel an improvement attempt would be negligible, but otherwise I take the chance to make them better.

Hey, now - that 1 homerun a year difference could be an epic game-breaker, lol. j/k

It's not a bad idea, but for pure asthetic reasons I tend to hate to see decreases in ratings, so I usually leave them at all 5's except in rare circumstances.

I guess I'm more of a gambler The gains for me have far outweighed the negatives so far.

Another one that you can do. If you play in a DH league and happen to have DH only hitters, steal all their defense points and apply them elsewhere. They obviously won't lose anything. I had 4 DH's in my minor league system and didn't realize to do this little trick for 2 years. I wanted to kill myself when I figured it out

That's something I have done, actually - the DH thing. The ONLY problem I've run into is that the player's trade value drops when he eventually loses his fielding position. Of course, if you plan on keeping him until he rots, it's an excellent idea.

I don't do that because I like my closer to go 1+ if need be, the most I'll usually use him for is 2 innings.

I normally get the computer's recomondations and then fix it up from there.

I like to convert starters to relievers by stealing thier endurance year after year till they're good.

Don't just press the "Ask the Coaches" button once. Push it about 20 times. Seriously. The players' numbers will jump around a bit and then they usually settle down real good after the 15th - 20th button press.
