players unavailable to any team

I've got a 1980's historical league (v5) that has some players who are 'there' but not on a team and not able to be picked up. For ex., Mattingly shows up hen I search for him, but he is not on a team nor is he on the free agent list. He is not injured and has not played a game. I have found other players like this by searching, as well.

I am importing real rookies to their original teams. The draft is set to 10 rounds, but that should be a moot point due to using original rookies, right?

Any idea what is going on?

This happens sometimes with imported players. You can get them signed by entering League Setup and using the "Edit Free Agents" button. These players will show up there and you can sign them to a team from there as well.
