Looking for a "names" file

I am looking for a names file that I can put into my data folder. I do want some Asian and Hispanic names but I do not want it loaded with them. Is there a file out there that does such a thing? Thanks.

Might want to try Malleus Dei's Names file. There are not very many Asian or Latin names included so you could add enough to suit your tastes.

DAVWMs origin generator's pretty cool too.

Aparebtly there's some sort of issue with it (I haven't read the thread closely enough to establish exactly what it is - I know there was an issue with heights, but it's worked fine for me so far, even though I have a lot more testing to do).

Just search for the thread, it's probably on the front page of this forum somewhere, if not, I'll go dig it up.

I found it through http://ootpdownloadcenter.com/utilities.html
and I have downloaded it. there are no dicrections on how to use it but it should be easy enough.

Thanks again.

Good news: I now know how to fix the heights issue. Bad news: the fix requires you to have both Excel and Lotus 1-2-3 installed on your computer.

I'm sure we'll get this all sorted out. In the meantime, use my Historical Name Generator file set.

If you want to use DAVWMs generator, it's easy enough.

Like I said, I know there are issues with player heights getting screwy, but it's worked well for me so far - no height issues . . . yet.

This is off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure this is how to use it:

Unzip the generator into you league folder, not the OOTP folder, but the folder of the league you created (the .lg extension one).

Before the intial draft (if this is the way you're doing it) go to league set-up, and export the general player info to CSV.

CLOSE OOTP entirely.

Open up the .lg folder, and open up the Generator. Set the values on the generator to reflect the percentages you want from the various countries.

Click generate.

All you'll hear is a little "beep" or click. That means it's worked.

Close out the generator, league folders etc.

Open up OOTP, open your league, go to league setup and click import general player info CSV.

That should be it.

Good luck with it, it is my favorite tool - if you want more info on why the height bug happens, I'm sure it's been discussed at length in the thread you found the generator on. I haven't read much of it, because I haven't had the problem.

I'm sure MDs historical generator will give you a few Asian names etc., I haven't used it. The thing I like about DAVWMs is the ability to easily customize percentages for name origins without having to open up the CSV.

The only issue I know of with the heights is if someone opesn the file in excel, modifies the origins manually and then saves it.. it then saves it in the format that you see in excel. To run my program, do NOT open the file in excel.. ever.. there is no need to..

and yes.. I do need to come up with directions for it.. I just haven't found the time to do that yet.. but just export, run the program, make any changes that you want to adjust the countries of origin, generate the origins (wait for the beep!) and close the program.. then just import it back into OOTP..

I was wondering, even though the names may change...will the origin of the player change as well? For example, I do want to use this historical name file but will I still get a "Joe Smith" from Mexico?

Also, can I add this name file if I have already started a league/career? Will it mess with my current players anmes?

Thanks.

You change player origins by using the OOTPOriginMaker or the OOTP Originator. There are threads about these programs in this forum. Takes about 5 minutes to do a whole league.
