C - Victor Martinez
1B - Jim Thome
2B - Don't currently have one (seems like we are in between eras of great 2B and I refuse to put Soriano on my list)
SS - Omar Vizquel
3B - Scott Rolen
LF - Barry Bonds (his greatness overcomes my dislike for him personally)
CF - Coco Crisp (strictly for the name)
RF - Vlad Guerrero
SP - Randy Johnson (most unhittable pitcher I've ever seen)
RP - K-Rod (gave this to a setup man because they face more pressure than closers)

Historic (haven't we done this before?)
C - Johnny Bench
1B - Andre Thornton
2B - Joe Morgan
SS - Omar Vizquel
3B - Buddy Bell
LF - George Foster (best player in the game from 76-79)
CF - Rickey Henderson (when he played center)
RF - Dwight Evans
P - Dennis Eckersley (starter and reliever)
Manager - Whitey Herzog (why isn't he in the HoF?)

C: Mike Piazza:He'll always be the Dodger phenom to me.
1b:Paul Konerko:The one that got away.
2b: Pokey Reese:I would pay just to watch him take infield.
3b: Mike Lowell: Never mind that he can kill the ball, he's a real-world survivor, too.
SS: Gary Sheffield: So maybe he hasn't played there forever. The guy could just plain HIT. And he wore Dodger blue.
LF: Manny Ramirez:I'm not sure I've ever seen a worse fielder or a better pure hitter in my lifetime.
CF: Johnny Damon:Between being a great leadoff hitter, and my having about a bloody gazillion of his rookie card, gotta go with Captain Caveman.
RF:Raul Mondesi:Gods help me for this one. Back in LA, I was convinced he'd be the second coming of Jesse Barfield. Too bad he's also a tremendous assclown.
SP: Greg Maddux:Sure, he's past his prime, but even though he was a damned Brave, he was amazing.
CL: Eric Gagne: Streak over or no, the man can do no wrong.

Edit: Honorable Mention:
IF: Freddy Sanchez: I was in Fenway a game in 2003 when he played 3b with Derek Lowe on the mound. Freddy fielded something like nine balls for assists. He was jaw-droppingly good. I really hope he comes back from his injury and catches on with a big-league club.

C: Todd Greene Quien es mas macho...Greene o Soriano? Best. Line. Ever. But I always liked Greene anyway, because with the Yankees he seemed to absolutely rake every time he got a bat in his hands.
1B: J.T. Snow Excellent, excellent fielder and very underrated in his prime, not that you'd know that by looking at his contract
2B: Enrique Wilson I have no idea why, but he's easily my favourite current Yankee - and I'm a Yankees fan
3B: Kevin Euclis The Greek God of Walks
SS: Derek Jeter And every time he misses a ground ball, I'll say something about how, yes, his fielding really isn't that good. But some of the plays he makes...
LF: Adam Dunn Truly deserving of being called "Godzilla" with all of the walks, K's, and quadrangles
CF: Scott Podsednik Something about his rise to grace is very appealing, and that's a great last name.
RF: Rocco Baldelli Yeah, I know, but I absolutely love the nickname "The Woonsocket Rocket"
SP: Tim Wakefield The knuckler...it's a thing of beauty.
RP: Mariano Rivera Enter Sandman...

C: Jorge Posada -- Actually met the guy once. Very grounded and nice guy. Left an impression on me I won't soon forget.

1b: Tino Martinez -- Sorry, but I still remember him from the late 90s Yankees teams. Went out and did his job without all the whining and crap you hear from a lot of players.

2b: Alfonso Soriano -- Was sorry to see him go.

3b: Hank Blalock -- This kid as a TON of promise.

SS: Omar Vizquel -- You never knew what that guy was going to do next. One of the best defensive SSs I've seen 2nd to Ozzie.

LF: Carl Crawford -- Ok, not a "true" LF, but I really like this kid. Should be interesting to see how he grows up.

CF: Bernie Williams -- Another no-nonsense player. He goes out and gives 100% every day, every play.

RF: Vladimir Guerrero -- Great all around player. Was a bit disappointed when the Yankees didn't go after him, but ah well. Guess he was too young for Steinbrenner.

DH: Edgar Martinez -- In his prime, he was the best hitter I've ever seen. Always seemed to get the hit when his team needed him too.

SP: Randy Johnson -- WOW is all I can say. The guy is amazing.

RP: Mariano Rivera -- I find myself sometimes turning off games that go into the 9th with the Yankees leading because I figure Rivera has things locked up.

C - I-Rod, maybe the 1st AL catcher to win a batting title, and the greatest defender of his era bahind the plate ?!?!

1B - Pujols, just so dominant and so young still... could be the phenomenon of the next decade

2B - Marcus Giles... Atlanta sparkplug (Jose Vidro a close 2nd)

3B - Chipper... consistently excellent until this yr... 8 straight 100+ RBI seasons due to end

SS - Nomar... because he ain't Jeter & because he is so twitchy at the plate

LF - Bonds... used to hate him, but he's sure fun to watch now, whenever pitched to

CF - Edmonds... a master in the field & helluva hitter too (Andruw & Pierre close 2nd's)

RF - Sammy... great personality & I love his hop... such a fan's player, running out to RF every game...

SP - Pedro... just so dominant & never know who he'll bean next...

SP - Randy... 4000 K's... so feared... loved when he threw at Kruk in the AS game & Walker came to the plate w/ his helmet on backwards...

SP - Hampton... loved watching him since Houston days, primarily because he was even a .300 hitter his last yr

CL - Smoltz... one of the best postseason pitchers ever & a former Cy Young as a starter

Actually, Youk's college and minor league batting stats are much more similar to Jason Giambi's than Boggs'. If only BALCO contacts Youk, maybe there will be a second coming of the parasites man.

Well since we seem to be going for favorites here:

C - Jason Kendall
1B- Eric Karros
2B- Alex Cora
SS- Ceasar Itzuris
3B- Scott Rolen
LF-Manny Ramirea
CF-Johnny Damon
RF-Vlad

SP-Kevin Brown when he has the sinker working, when not Tim Hudson
Closer - Gagne

People may make fun of the Cora - Itzuris picks but as far as defense goes I don't think there is a better middle infield in all of baseball. Their fielding is a thing of beauty to watch every night. I don't know how many games they have won for the Dodgers with their great fielding but that alone makes them worth it. Ceasar Itzuris deserves a gold glove.

Boy...this was pretty tough to do...tougher than I thought it would be at least.

C Biggio - He started off as a catcher and I absolutely loved to see a backstop steal 25 bags in a season.
1B Bagwell - He's here because about 10 years ago I started to emulate his batting stance...wide with little or no stride...and I've been a hitting machine ever since. If Big Mac were still on the diamond instead of the links, he'd be here, no question about it.
2B Alomar Jr. - His best years are obviously behind him, but there was nobody better flinging a ball from behind 2nd than he was in his prime.
3B Chavez - I'm an A's fan, but that has nothing to do with this pick...amazing glove and range who hits from the left side (so do I) for great power and at such a young age.
SS Tejada - Gets to balls that nobody else even tries for and always looks like he's having a blast on the field.
LF Byrnes - Ok, this is my homer pick. If you don't know who Eric Byrnes is, just picture a 7 year old kid at Disneyland after eating two bags of cotton candy chased down by a jumbo slurpee...the guy is just buzzing all the time. He is not the best outfielder around but can make up for bad routes to balls with blinding speed and his kamikaze like treatment of his body...case in point, check out the video called Byrnes' two great catches. If he doesn't stick with the A's I hope he quits baseball and tries his hand at football cause he'd make an excellent safety and would be an amazing return man to boot!! If Rickey were still in the league...I'd pick him for sure!!
CF Edmonds - If you were to look at him you wouldn't think that he'd be one of the best defensive outfielders in the game, let alone in CF...but, he is. Makes highlight reel plays every week and hits tape measure bombs as well.
RF Vlad - He's exactly what you would want in a player if you were to build a franchise around one guy...simply awesome.
SP Clemens - This was a tough one because I do love Huddy and Mulder...but, Clemens has been "the man" for nearly 20 years and is still dominating like never before. Just love his "no-nonsense" approach to the game.
CL Gagne - Good ol' Canadian boy who loves doing what he does and isn't afraid of anybody. I love it when a guy wants to go out there and face the opposition's best player with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth with the game on the line...that's the kind of attitude every closer needs and he has it in spades.

Great point made about Byrnes, a good all-round player. Looks just like my cousin too. Of course, I'm half-biased because I was actually at the interleague game where he hit for the cycle and almost caught one of the balls he threw into the seats.
